DH is set on the name Finn if we have a boy. I actually really like it, but I hesitate to have a short first name that is sort of a nickname. I have this rule that you need a longer name, with a built-in nickname. So is "Finn" on its own an acceptable name?
I've been pushing to have a longer name, like Finnegan or Finley. However, I don't really like either of those names and we probably would never use it--it would pretty much just be for job applications when he was older. Background: DS is Andrew and the new kid's MN would be Paul or Michael and our last name is two syllables.
I realize Finn may not be everyone's style, which is fine. I'm mostly just curious about whether it really can stand on its own as a first name...Thanks.
Re: Short first names
I love Finn and think it's perfectly acceptable on its own, I would use a two syllable mn though.

Finn Michael is a great name!

I do like the idea of Griffin, but I have a coworker whose son has that name. I'm not sure I'd want to use it to. For some reason, I never really made the connection between Griffin and Finn until this thread!
