How do you girls cope and pass time!? — The Bump
Pregnant after a Loss

How do you girls cope and pass time!?

After 3 consecutive losses in the past year, DH and I are currently 5w2 days with our 4th pg. I'm just curious how you ladies, after losing, pass the time and not freak out all the time!?! I'm struggling. It's an all consuming issue for me, all i think about even at work. Wish I could just fast forward to the 2nd tri : How do you girls focus on other things and "pass the time" ???

Re: How do you girls cope and pass time!?

  • I work as much OT as they'll let me have at work, sleeping and doing things around the house.  (We just moved in last August so there are plenty of things for me to do to keep busy)

  • Honestly it wasn't easy. Every day was a struggle and every time I went to the bathroom was a nightmare. I suppose I just did the best I could to keep busy. Find a movie to watch to help you escape from your PgAL brain, exercise to get those endorphins, talk to people, and I blogged a lot too. It's not easy. But at some point it gets easier.

  • I have a mild panic attack leading up to every appointment. Honestly, passing the time between appointments was the hardest, I just focused on doing housework (when I had the energy), working overtime, spending time with DH and our dog.

I know I didn't really offer any specific things, but I really just wanted you to know you aren't alone.

  • One day at a time. I'm 16w3d and still a paranoid freak. Every appointment is scary, but I go in hoping for the best, knowing that I feel pregnant. It is a little easier now that I have started feeling the baby move. In first tri, I just told myself that I would make it to the next week. Each week was a new goal. Making it pass loss dates was a goal. Hearing the heartbeat was a goal. Second tri was a goal.

There were some points early on that I would forget or ignore that I was pregnant to keep my mind from gig crazy. I tried to follow as normal a routine as possible, minus drinking and heavy lifting.

  • It's worse for me because I had a second tri loss, I won't feel comfortable until we're way past that point.

Someone wisely said there will always be something to worry about - you won't stop worrying when they're born healthy, even when they're 30, you'll still be worrying. At some point you have to try to keep the anxiety in check so it doesn't take over.

  • Honestly you never stop worrying, even after having a successful term pregnancy after a loss. You just have to try and find things to fill your time, do crafts, clean, watch movies, plan lots of dinner dates with DH, exercise, go to greenhouses and festivals... Anything that keeps you looking forward to something fun/positive and keeps your mind from having time to wander.

It is really hard to stay calm after a loss. I've been just keeping myself really busy. I'm in school, I work part time, and I've been working a few days a week at my moms daycare to get out of the house and keep my mind off of things. When I'm home, I'm usually in bed or something since I've been so tired. The last week or so has really gone by quickly. I hope that you are able to find something to help you through this ((hugs))

  • I pray. I also repeat the following mantra "Most pregnancies end in babies". I hope you feel better after you have some good Dr appointments.

  • I wanted to cry every day in the beginning but my dr was wonderful. He actually saw me once a week for the entire first tri. Hang in there!!!
