Travel Restrictions?

I'm going to call my OB's office in the morning to ask, but I thought I'd ask you ladies in the meantime.  DH's great uncle passed away today and the funeral services are a little over 2 hours away.  I feel more than comfortable riding that far and I know we'll stop if I need a stretch break.  We would also probably be staying overnight.

Were any of you given restrictions that you couldn't go so far away from your home or doctor's office after a certain point?  I'm 35 weeks today for those on mobile.

Re: Travel Restrictions?

  • My ob was willing to let me go on a houseboat trip 6 hours away at 34 weeks. As long as PTL isn't a concern you're good to go!

  • No restrictions. But since I'm already progressing I won't be making long trips, personal choice. ETA: Apparently I missed it's for a funeral so I would go but I wouldn't be making plans to stay over.

  • My only restriction is my OB doesn't want me to go more than 3 hrs away from 32 weeks on.  But I would definitely go 2 hr away for a funeral

  • I just got back from a 19hour car trip took 3 days doctor said it was fine to do by 32 weeks and to know where local hospitals were in case of emergency. Take stretch breaks and walk around. Also drink water. I wouldn't think twice about a 2 hour trip but it depends how you feel.
  • My doctor said I should try staying in town around 35 weeks. I'm missing a trip to NYC, but I would've been a downer anyway. If it were for a funeral I would try to make it though.

  •  First of all, sorry for your loss.

Second... OMG it's TWO HOURS!  You'll be fine!  My HOSPITAL is an hour and 45 minutes from here so I'm always that far away and I have to drive there for my doctor appointments and the birth.  You don't even have to stop to stretch during that time period, you probably sit for longer periods of time at home or work.

If we were talking about 5-6 hours with a high risk pregnancy that may be another story.  But if you are progressing normally you will be perfectly fine.  Even if you go into labor you'll still have plenty of time to get back to your regular hospital.  It's not like they shoot out of you the moment your water breaks.  Labor can take a looooong time!
