my kids love artichokes. Love them. They each have to have their own (well, not my 18 month old, but my 3 and 5 y/o).
I like mexican restaurants when we are eating with the kids. My priorities are not really health, but getting in and out, getting the kids their food quickly, and not spending too much.
Both my kids love homemade hummus and eat it with a spoon. We don't order off kids menus. The usually order off the adult menu and split it with a lot still to take home.
What are some 'unusual' things that your LOs eat? Do you ever get the crazy look from people for anything you feed?
Shawn eats everything and I think it's hilarious. In addition to like, zucchini and sweet potatoes as his 'first veggies', we would give him a lot of sauteed peppers/onions/etc because we make that a lot and he would eat them right up. My mom was like....is that baby eating a bell pepper??? Uh, yup! Pretty much anything I put in front of him he will try and if he doesn't like it the first time I always try again. That's what happened with avocados and cottage cheese, now he loves both (not together lol). Also eggplant, garlic, tomatoes, black beans, yogurt with lemon, and feta cheese.
Also, what restaurants have you found that had really great kid's menus?
The two that I think are pretty good are Bertucci's and IHOP. Both have some junk, but they also have just smaller versions of adult meals, which I like. If we go somewhere and I know the portions are huge or if I won't finish it, I just order and DS and I will share, but sometime's I know there won't be much leftover so I have to order him his own. I think people at restaurants are sometimes amazed at how he tears up his food too; I just hope it stays this way
Hardboiled eggs, dill pickles, broccoli, cauliflower, sliced tomatoes, kalamata olives. I don't necessarily consider any of those things "unusual," but other people seem astounded by them.

Oh, yeah, mine adore artichokes. I think it's mostly the sauce (I do a sort of fake Hollandaise) but they would eat a whole one each, if I let them.
My girls love shrimp, lobster, crab, and calamari. It always shocks my seafood loving in-laws that they eat those things. The kids eat the same dinners that DH and I do. The only exception being spicy food, then I will make them something else.
As far as great kids' meals go, Roy's Hawaiian Fusion is nice. They bring out an appetizer of cucumbers, carrots, and a small quesadilla, which keeps the kids busy before their meal arrives.
ETA: They also love carrots, cucumbers, and broccoli.
I think my son likes tofu burgers more than anything else. I think that's weird. He also asks for cucumbers every day. Not necessarily an odd food but it's weird that he likes that when there are so few things he eats.
Some of these really are hilarious!
TTC since September '08
After 2 m/c - lap for stage 3-4 endo
Oct '09 Bravelle w/Ovidrel trigger - iui on 11/07
Julia dances around the house excited when we're having fish and loves sushi. She even eats the wasabi with it!
Emma won't touch macaroni and cheese or pasta with sauce (although pasta with olive oil and parmesan is a favorite!).
I mostly get stares because I generally don't order off the kids menu for them. They'll share an adult entree and have no trouble finding one they both love. They would gladly eat chicken nuggets or hot dogs, but I'd rather not order it so we don't offer it.
My kid would eat ketchup by the truck load if i let him. He will also eat ANYTHING if you let him dip it in ketchup. He also likes alot of spicy food.
Kids menus are tough for us bc he cant have cheese. Everything is always pizza, mac and cheese., or grilled cheese, and then chicken fingers which i dont love.for him to eat.
At red robin then have grilled chicken on a stick which i just thought was the greatest.thing ever.
N eats just about everything we do. She loves seafood and will eat veggies when we're out. I think most people are surprised when she starts gobbling up shrimp. She also likes spicy food. She will eat something much spicier than I prefer. She gets that from DH. I've never ordered off of the kids menu for her. I just order something a la carte or she shares what we have. I'm not paying for $4 for a bowl of kraft mac n cheese.
DS1 asks for crab all the time. They both love eating salads.
My favorite place to take the kids is D'Amicos, which is a local chain. They have lots of great, healthy options. Otherwise they love any sort of Chinese food. I'm not opposed to kids menus, but the kids usually are so distracted and barely eat anything when we're out. It's just easier to have them eat off our meals most of the time.
My son tried grilled shrimp the other day and loved it. He's 1, and for now, he'll eat anything turkey burgers, edamame, green beans, etc. He LOVES pepperoni pizza but that's not the healthiest. He probably has it once every couple weeks though
When we go out I usually bring a fruit or a veggie, then DH and I just give him some of our meal. The quantity he ears makes it a waste of money to buy him his own meal at this point.
WE feed DS anything we eat.I mean he eats Sushi and people thing we are nuts He's going through a picky stage but we are working through it by just feeding him what we eat. I think its a stage because he used to eat anything we put in fount of him.
I hate kid menus....they all seem to have sucky stuff I don't mind him eating a grilled cheese or chicken nuggets occasionally so if he really wants it I'll let him have something from it if hes eaten healthy the rest of the day.We don't eat that stuff at home so I figure if he asks for it during eating out (we don't eat out a lot really) its no biggie. But really if I'm spending the money to go out I want him to have good stuff to so he still eats off our plate and we may get a side just for him to make him his own meal. Plus even if we get him a sucky kids menu thing he wants our food just because its our food so we don't bother very much with it. Torchys does have a cool kids menu though.
My kids eat what we eat. If I'm making something with peppers, they will jump up and down while I am cutting them up until I give them a piece. Tomato's, broccoli, cauliflower, rice & parm, carrots, cucumber, zucchini, brussel sprouts, spinach, any sort of fruit (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries & strawberries are ultimate favorites), and a ton of other stuff that most kids won't eat.
We have my husband's niece here for the week and before she came my husbands parents (they are raising her) told me that she won't eat any fruit, yogurt, milk and a bunch of other stuff. This week she's tried blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, peaches and has asked for milk to drink for every meal and has asked for yogurt and eaten the whole thing each time. I'm beginning to wonder if she is just eating these things because my kids do or because she's just never offered them at home and therefore doesn't know that she likes them.
ETA: We do order off the kids menu, but only because I'm not paying $15 or more for a meal that my kids will eat 7 bites of. It just creates too much leftovers. Every restaurant we go to I can order a healthy kids meal with steamed veggies as a side for only $7 and that comes with a kids size drink, so we go with that instead.

Started our exploration into the world of international adoption June 2012. We have no idea what this is going to look like but we are excited to find out!
Both of mine are obsessed with bell peppers, cucumbers and black olives. They devour any kind of beans. (But neither will touch a chicken nugget or hamburger!) DD1 loves General Tso's Chicken and scallion pancakes.
We don't use the kid's menu much either. They usually split pasta or an adult's thin crust pizza.
I don't know that DS eats anything really surprising. I usually get surprised comments about what he won't eat. Things like hot dogs, lunch meat, American cheese.

My DD loves edamame, pot stickers, spinach, brussel sprouts and salmon!
We don't eat out often, but she really likes Chipotle. We don't order from the kids meal though. She just has part of our burrito.

My ILs think it's ridiculous I make DS1 drink water most of the time. They really think I am mistreating him because I don't let him have more juice.
I feel like Subway has a decent kids menu for being fast food.

There's another one. My oldest won't eat fried eggs unless they have Tabasco.
Mussels - in particular the Noramandie Way.
Brussel Sprouts
Brocoli
Artichokes - but she must have something to dip the leaves in.
Sushi as long as it isn't spicy.

Oysters, lamb, she'll eat her body weight in boiled shrimp.
We don't use the kid's menu most places, we just find something on the regular menu she likes.

My kids would eat a meat with vegetables every.single.night. This is typically what we eat, so it works.
DS1 really likes salad, DS2 gags on leaves still.
We don't bother with kids' menus. I just split an adult entree between the two boys.

Shrimp. Any kind of fish for that matter. She eats it like candy.
Cheese too. Like the high end, specialty stuff.
She'll also eat her weight in asparagus.
Really, she likes most "adult" food. Kid has expensive taste..lol.
She's never been fussy though. More of a matter of whether or not she's choosing to eat.
