House related: What would you want?

Obviously NBR.

We are building a house. (hopefully we will start in a month) We have the choice between a linen closet and bath/shower combo or a stand alone shower and garden tub without the linen closet.

Here is what the the bathroom would sort of look like. Just more modern. The linen closet would go where the shower is, if we went with a combo.

Re: House related: What would you want?

  • Personally I'd want the garden tub. And I'd find another place to store towels etc.

  • I'd probably go with the closet if it were me. I like being able to close a door and have things out of sight.

  • That is what we want. We were wondering for resale purposes. I guess it is a personal preference. We never use the tub, now.

  • If you're a big bath person, then I'd go with the separate tub. But since I'm currently living on a house with limited storage, I'd want the closet.

    I am lucky enough to have both a linen closet and the tub in my bathroom. If I had to pick one, the tub hands down. Without question.nbsp;Oh, and if you can swing it? My tub has jets. It's AMAZING. nbsp;

No one asked the girl with the wine cellar! :p

  • I'd want the tub, and jets would be amazing. It would be great for kids, romance, relaxing.. I'm sure the house would have other cabinets and closets, and the bathroom would have drawers and cabinets, so you would still have plenty of storage space!

Romance? Kids in my tub? You are funny.

Good point on the cabinets. I need to count how many there will be under the sinks.

I'd keep the tub and give up the wine cellar. I'm not even kidding. My tub ALSO has these nifty arm rests so you can relax and hold a book at the proper angle. The only "change" I'd make to my tub is I'd want a larger (2 person) one and I'd put the faucets on the corner rather than at the head/foot.

That's fancy! I would give up the closet for that tub, too. In reality, it is a standard garden tub without bells and whistles. I'm building a very modest house. Lol

Lurking. If you give up the tub for a linen closet, I would do just a shower, not a shower/tub combo. I hate shower tub combos, they are so hard to clean.

Dude, a little vinegar water and cleaning cloth once a week, isn't that hard. I have two combos now. Even with a busted foot, cleaning isn't that hard.

  • I would go for the combo and linen closet. The garden tub and stand alone shower seems redundant to me. Of course every house I've lived in has had a combo or just a shower, so my opinion is probably biased :)

  • I would have a linen closet with the combo, but that is because I know several people with the separate tub and shower and most say they rarely  use the tub.

However, like you, I would worry about resale value.  I am afraid at a certain price point, everyone will just expect the separate tub and shower.

  • I would go with the tub/shower combo and linen closet. I wouldn't do just a shower because that can effect resale. I don't think it's any harder to clean, but what do I know. My maid does all of that ;)

Really!? No one asked you either! :P

I think that is what the plan is. We wanted outside opinions. We aren't telling the family just yet. His sister is buying and closes next month. We want her to have her time. This is a big deal for her. Us buying is not that big of a deal. She needs all of the happy and excitement she can get.

  • Hmm. I would choose the tub personally.  I live in a house with a garden tub that also has a shower head in it.  It is almost like the best of both worlds?  Is it possible to do that and have the closet as well?

We chose the linen closet. We have an oversized bathtub/shower combo and I love it! That linen closet is the best thing ever!!!

Pretty much this. If you don't have the linen closet in the bathroom is there a large closet somewhere nearby? Plus couldn't you have a combo maybe something like this? image

Or more modern version of this?image

    I vote for linen closet.
  • I am not a big tub person, we had one in the last house and I hated to clean it.  I would love an extra large shower though...
