Breastfeeding

Bad latch

LO is 4 weeks pp and suddenly he's started having a bad latch. He'll start off ok but eventually pushes my nipple shallower and shallower until it's barely in his mouth and it starts to hurt me. Or he unlatches frequently during feedings. He's taking in air too... He makes clicking noises while feeding that I'm pretty sure is the latch breaking and air getting in.

Any suggestions on how to get him to keep a good latch for the whole feeding? I've been trying techniques to soften the breast area around the nipple so he can take in a lot of the breast tissue but it doesn't seem to be helping.

I also plan to call a lactation consultant tomorrow. I'm just curious if others are having this issue and any tips you've got to make it better.

TIA!

I've been having issues with a shallow latch from day 1 and it's over 5 weeks now. My best advice is to see a lactation consultant.

My daughter has learned and now prefers a shallow latch (she'll pull herself off if I get her on deeper) so now I have to re-train her.

Best of luck and don't be afraid to get help soon!
