Sick and Supply Dip

Hi Ladies,

I have been sick for 4 days now with a high fever (highest was 104.8).  It's not mastitis, just a nasty virus that is giving me awful sore throat, body aches, chills, sweating, etc.  My supply has drastically decreased and although I'm starting to feel a bit better I'm noticing my supply continues to decrease.  It's stressing me out a bit because I would think with getting better I wouldnt see any more decrease in milk supply.  I am staying PLENTY hydrated.  I have been forcing myself to drink 5-6 20 oz gatorades each day in additional to regular water, tea, soup, etc.  Wondering if any of you have had experience with a severe supply dip when sick and how long did it take to see it rebound? Thanks!

Re: Sick and Supply Dip

  • About a week after delivery I started running a high fever with body aches. They never did figure out the cause, but it definitely impacted my supply to the point where I needed to start supplementing. I finished my antibiotic on Saturday and have been feeling better. My supply, although still not where it was, is increasing by a little every day. Before, I was pumping about 24 ounces a day and now I am back up to 13 to 15. I EP. Fenugreek, oatmeal, lactation cookies, and Guinness have helped.
