Hello all - my husband and I would like to explore a hybrid between disposable and reusable diapers. Has anyone had success with a reusable shell that has disposable inserts? We would certainly like to cut down on diaper waste but not ready to fully commit to all cloth diapers (I have had experience with all cloth when working as a nanny - seems great, just not my thing). Thanks in advance!
Re: Reusable shell with disposable insert?
GroVia has shells and disposable inserts. The inserts have leg gussets and I have heard good things about them.
Flip (BumGenius/Cotton Babies) also has covers and disposable inserts.
Those are the only two I can think of at this moment besides gDiapers...
We use the grovia disposables for travel. They are awesome and the covers hand wash really well in a sink. We use there cloth inserts when home.
Flip, g-diapers, and Charlie Bannana also make disposable inserts.
I have used the Flip disposable insterts and they worked well for us.
I also have a Grovia cover that was my favorite, but I never used a disposable insert with it
To put yourself at a bit of ease, prefolds are really not messy at all and easy to clean. I'd recommend getting a diaper pail and liner from Nick's Diapers online. When it's time to wash, just pick up the liner from the pail and empty into the washing machine (no touching nasties!). We do two rinses and a wash about every 2-3 days. Nothing lingers on the prefolds. I don't think I could pull my husband's arm to get him back to anything disposable. He likes prefolds better because they hold a lot in.
Charlie Banana is another shell and disposable combo. They are sold in Target.
