3rd Trimester

Worst constipation..TMI

This TMI but I need to know if this has happened to anyone else. I am 37 weeks pregnant. Yesterday I went to the bathroom thinking I was going to have a BM-which I had not had in a few days...and it was so painful. I could not "push" it out. I have been constipated before but not like this. My BM was stuck and it was the most painful thing. So I ate applesauce and tons of water and walked around to see if that would move things along. NOPE. Finally I had my hubby go and get Metamucil. I drank that...I really thought I was going to go to the hospital for an enema! Finally like an hour later I went! Now I am sore and probably will have hemmoroids  but I hope this does not happen again!!! YIKES

applesauce will constipate you further. Eat a high fiber cereal, drink a little coffee, and tons of water, like you're already doing.

  • I've been experiencing the same thing in the third trimester. It's crazy uncomfortable. I eventually went out and got some glycerine suppositories, and I use them when it gets bad. Colace also works, but only as a preventative measure.

    Hope you're feeling better!

  • Yeah, right there with you.  Lots of water, watermelon and prunes are helping.

After a similar incident I started eating an Activia with chia seeds every day and that has really helped.

  • yea, tons of water and avoid binding fruits like apples and bananas. I swear by metamucil

  • Daily colace, mirilax on occasion, strong coffee, and LOTS of water have helped me. Snacking on almonds helped a lot in the first tri, then had to switch to actual meds, bleh.

  • Colace is a great idea... But also, a million old people are not wrong; prunes, prunes, prunes!  I'm not sure why they're so amazing, but they really do work!  :)

  • Colace, Miralax, and lots of prune juice
  • I have been having this issue my whole pregnancy. My doctor has me taking a stool softener every day so it doesn't get that bad. But still have lots of issues with it. Good luck!
  • Kiwis and Apple juice, I know it sounds weird, but it works. I tried everything prunes, tons of fiber, water, etc. Oh also walking, but you need to really get out there and walk, like 3-5 miles a day helps. I tried Colace and MOM. MOM works, but is nasty. Colace is ok.

  • Prunes,  lots and lots of water, fruit (like a healthy dose of apples, pears, mangoes), eat leafy greens as much as possible, and a couple teaspoons of chia seeds in everything!
  • Thanks for the advice! Going to get some prune juice first. I am on bed rest so the not moving around does not help with the constipation.
