Dangerous habits

Do any of your baby's have habits that all the baby books consider "dangerous?" My daughter always wants to have her A&A blankies with her. Not only that, she needs them wrapped in her fists, and now she has taken to pulling it over her face. I think it helps soothe her to have the light pressure and coolness on her face before sleep. I know they are super thin muslin blankets and I have put it over my face and can easily breathe, but I'm still freaked out. All of the literature I've read has ingrained the message in my mind that blankets will cause SIDS and they must be avoided at all costs! What do you ladies think?

Re: Dangerous habits

  • I thought the purpose of the AA security blankies is that they are breathable. I don't let DD sleep with hers at night, but I'll let her nap with it during the day since she likes to hold onto it.

  • The A&A security blankets are super thin. DD2 slept with hers and always had to have it over her face(still does). It always made me so nervous but she was fine.

  • DS likes to bury his face in our chest, armpit, or elbow when cuddling/napping on us. He will squirm so much and stop when his face is buried. We move him, and he finds his way back. When he's in the Moby I have to keep a close eye on him since he likes to bury his face in the fabric at times too.

DS does this too as well as the burying his face in chest/arms. DH sleeps with blankets over his face so I figure DS is just like his daddy. He gets swaddled at night and usually pulls it up over his face but its not necessarily touching his face so he can still breathe.

  • DS also nuzzles his face into my arm, chest, whatever is around, and pulls the blanket up by his face too. It made me super nervous the first few times he did it, but it's all that seems to keep him asleep. He also refuses to sleep on his back! He'll either sleep on his side or his tummy, of course neither is how he's "suppose" to sleep, oh well
  • Ditto on the AA blanket. He does not pull them over his face yet but he loved it snuggled around his hand and close to his face. He is my first to have a lovey...he does not take a passy so I guess this is his comfort.
