Nursing bra question

I remember reading while pregnant that wearing an underwire bra can interfere with milk production. Is this just true during pregnancy or also when simply EBF? Basically, I'm missing my underwire bras and I want to hear that it's ok to go buy underwire nursing bras, because I need them.

TIA!

Re: Nursing bra question

  • I was told by my public health nurse to avoid using them, but especially in the beginning when your supply is regulating. The woman who did my bra fitting said 10 weeks postpartum. I used a bravado allure with underwire (they have a bigger, round underwire that they claim is better) through my pregnancy because it was comfortable and really adjustable. About 8 weeks postpartum I started wearing it again for going out. Now I wear underwire during the day if Im out, but never at night. Also, some underwire bras are worse than other for blocking ducts so read reviews.

If you're worried about underwire and want the same lift, bravado bliss looks and feels like underwire but its actually just some amazing type of seam they use. I'm sure other people could suggest other brands that do the same.

  • Thanks for this info! I'm 9 weeks pp. I think part of my problem is that I really need a good bra fitting because I clearly have no clue what my bra size is at this point, but it's definitely not what it used to be.

I was thinking of going over to Soma. Has anyone tried their nursing bras?

I had a couple of nursing bra's with underwire and never had a problem with supply or with it causing me any pain. I went and got fitted and tried a bunch on in store then bought them online. I got 80 bra's for half the price by doing it that way. I agree with PP and not wear underwire to bed.

  • I just went for a bra fitting at Nordstrom yesterday and the sales woman said there's nothing wrong with underwire dad long as they're properly fitted. When fitted correctly the wires should be against your ribcage, not your breast tissue, anyway.
