I apologize if there's already a post on this, my mobile is acting up and won't let me search for anything!
Did anyone here not take the childbirth classes from the hospital or are not planning too? BTDT moms did you not take a class and regret it? Did you wish you hadn't taken the class once you were done with it? Does it actually help?
The classes here cost a couple hundred so I'm just gauging opinions on if I really need to take them or if ill be fine without!
Thanks!

I always go into it as more knowledge, more power. Cheese, I know.

Have you tried looking elsewhere for classes? The Red Cross, community center, Mom's groups, a university, Babies R Us sometimes offer classes including infant CPR etc...
My friend called a doula and had her give her and her husband a little childbirth class and breast feeding class. Thought that was smart, plus you had one on one attention.
We opted to do a home study course since my hospital's classes were at a time when I had class. I am very, very happy that we decided to do SOMETHING to prepare for birth. First, it made me feel more prepared personally, but second it gave H a lot of information he needed to prepare himself.
I attend births as part of my job so I'm no stranger to them and what happens. But it's so different as a FTM being on the other side of things. I know what labor LOOKS like, but I really didn't know some of the things I should expect, which those classes taught me. I also feel way more confident and better educated after taking these courses.
We ended up doing The Pink Kit (about $75), GentleBirth ($99), and BlissBorn ($250). I'm a blogger so I've been working with these companies for a big home study course feature so for the most part these kits were contributed for free, but even if they hadn't been spending $75 for the Pink Kit or even $99 on the GentleBirth kit would have been sooooo worth it to me! BlissBorn is by far my favorite of the programs and the most comprehensive BUT at $250 it might be cheaper to do the hospital course unless you really want a natural hypnosis birth.

I’m a modern man, a man for the millennium. Digital and smoke free. A diversified multi-cultural, post-modern deconstruction that is anatomically and ecologically incorrect. I’ve been up linked and downloaded, I’ve been inputted and outsourced, I know the upside of downsizing, I know the downside of upgrading. I’m a high-tech low-life. A cutting edge, state-of-the-art bi-coastal multi-tasker and I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond! I’m new wave, but I’m old school and my inner child is outward bound. I’m a hot-wired, heat seeking, warm-hearted cool customer, voice activated and bio-degradable. I interface with my database, my database is in cyberspace, so I’m interactive, I’m hyperactive and from time to time I’m radioactive.
I took a class recommended by my doctor which was only $85. It was pretty helpful, I learned a lot of stuff and it was run by an L&D nurse who answered a lot of questions.
However, the last day of class a sales lady for Viacord came to talk to us and I was unimpressed - especially since we definitely can't afford it right now. It was kind of high pressure and that part wasn't so great.
