Baby Names

Lawrence?

Recently someone posted about name rules you apply. One of my rules is that a name needs to sound well in English. I myself am Dutch (so is the bf), but have lived abroad for a number of years and have met people with Dutch names that are unintelligible in English (Gijs, Grietje). A sidenote to this rule is that a name is preferably spelled the same in Dutch and in English (i.e. Emilia, Josephine). Now I have fallen in love with the name Laurens, this is the Dutch variant of Lawrence.

My question is twofold: What are your thoughts on Lawrence? Would you get that Laurens and Lawrence are the same name?

This is completely hypothetical by the way :)

When I see Laurens, I think of two girls named Lauren. I have zero knowledge of Dutch, so I definitely would not get that they are the same name. As for Lawrence, I'm not a huge fan. It just sounds very grown up for a child and I hate the nn Larry.

This is me-- word for word!  Sorry!

Definitely Laurens would look like a misspelling of Lauren (girls name) in English.

Also, please note that Lawrence gets nicknamed to Larry in adulthood.
