Share Your Lactation Cookie Recipes

I found a recipe online for oatmeal cookies with flaxseed meal and brewers yeast.  I really didn't care for them much... they were really bitter and I had a hard time actually eating them.

I keep hearing others say how tasty theirs are.  If you have a good recipe, please share it!

Also, does anyone know if you can make no-bake cookies with the regular oats (as opposed to quick oats)?  I think these would be better than regular oatmeal cookies, even if they were a little crunchy... but I'm afraid of wasting all the ingredients if they don't turn out.

  • Here's a recipe for the cookies I made.  It's a few recipes tweaked together.  They are egg free and have extra flax. I think it depends on which brand of brewer's yeast you use. I use lewis labs.  These cookies were a huge hit with my whole family and a friend and her kid. Everyone ate them and loved them. They were not bitter at all.

     Ingredients:

    1 cup butter1 cup sugar1 cup firmly packed brown sugar2 tbsp molasses6 tablespoons water4 tablespoons flax seed meal1 tablespoon vanilla2 cups flour1 teaspoon baking soda1 teaspoon salt3 cups oats (not instant)1 11 ounce bag chocolate chips1-2 cup(s) Chopped walnuts 4 tablespoons brewer's yeast/nutritional yeast
DirectionsPreheat oven to 350?.Mix the flaxseed meal and water and let sit for 3-5 minutes.Beat butter, sugar, and brown sugar well.Add flaxseed mix and mix well.Add vanilla, beat well.Sift together flour, brewers yeast, baking soda, and salt.Add dry ingredients to butter mix.Stir in oats and chips.Stir in nuts. Scoop onto baking sheet.Bake for 12 minutes.

  • I can never find brewers yeast. I make oatmeal cookies and figure it's at least some extra oatmeal. Where can I find the brewers yeast?

I got my brewer's yeast from GNC.  Other supplement/health food stores would likely have it as well.  You could also find it online.

  • I used this recipe, but cut down the sugars to 3/4 cup each because I found the originals too sweet:  https://www.food.com/recipe/oatmeal-chocolate-chip-lactation-cookies-by-noel-trujillo-192346

I've heard people say that the Flax or Brewer's yeast makes the cookies bitter.  I didn't think so, so I always added the maximum suggested in the recipe because they are the two ingredients that are supposed to help with milk supply (in addition to oats). Maybe start with the minimums suggested and try it that way?

  • No advice on the no bakes, however...

This is the recipe I follow (the first one), I add a sprinkle of turbinado (raw) sugar on top of mine after flattening and prior to baking.  I usually make two batches at a time and freeze them getting out the cookies I want the night before to thaw.

  • Also the only place I could find brewers yeast near me was at Whole Foods.
