Please help

The great crib escape just happened tonight. I put DD to bed and I heard a thump. I thought it was thunder so I went in to comfort her because the crying was so loud. She was standing next to the crib. Later she said "Oh, my God! I fell on the floor!" She's okay. No broken limbs. She just picked up the OMG expression today by accident and she used it correctly. It sounds so funny coming out of a toddler's mouth.

Well, anyhow...I need advice please. We need to get her a new bed. Her crib converts but I assume we need a twin matress. Should we do that or buy a toddler bed and use her existing matress? Any recs? We're considering a plastic Elmo toddler bed. Is that a waste of money?

Re: Please help

  • If her crib converts to a toddler bed, why buy a new one?

Thanks so much! I thought ours only went to a twin, but we have all the parts in the picture. Ours looks almost the same! Thank you for saving us money.

Any advice with the transition? Maybe we'll get Elmo sheets to make it more exciting.

Could you try a sleep sack until you can convert the crib?  With the sleep sack, she won't be able to swing her legs to climb over the crib rails.  My son is a climber and has never attempted to climb out of the crib (knock on wood), and I think it is because of the sleep sack.  Good luck!
  • Letting her help pick out new sheets is a good idea. Maybe even get her one of those dream light pillows. Gate the bedroom door at night assuming she can't scale those yet. And do a double check on the baby proofing in the bedroom. My kids transitioned easily. I hope it goes smoothly for you.

She'll be 2 at the end of next month. Good luck! I was hoping we could wait to transition till 3...not going to happen.

  • We weren't ready to convert so I turned the crib around so the high side is in the front because he can't climb over that. One side he could still get out over (the other are against the wall) but his Anywhere Chair is on that side so if he escapes, he'll just land on the chair. We did buy a twin mattress and got a bed frame for free from a friend that we'll probably put in his room next month. I figured that twin beds will fit better in our bedrooms than full beds when the time comes that they outgrow the toddler bed even though our crib converts so we'll save crib for #2 and just put him in a twin now (plus if he wakes I can go lay in his bed with him rather than bringing him in with DH and me where none of us sleep, lol).

You may be lucky like I was DD slept in a crib until 2 months before she turned 3.  She never once climbed out.  I was just like waiting for the day.

Don't have any add'l advice to add but the "Oh, my God" part made me giggle!  They are so funny at her age - especially when they throw out sayings!
