How sad. I think the hats are tasteless, but I think it is totally their prerogative to wear them. Mall security is way outta line. The individual mall cop should call and apologize. Or buy a hat.
We exist in a world where people curse. If my kid learned the word f*ck from this hat, I would tell him that the word was for adults and was rude and that he shouldn't say it. But I could not care less if people wanted to express their hatred for cancer in this manner. I don't blame them.
To take it further, I would never expect someone at a mall to be asked to remove any sort of offensive clothing. I might side-eye the shirt, hat, whatever, but I don't care if people wear it.

^ how would you feel if your kiddo read the shirts, and and started walking around chanting f%ck cancer? If it's getting postiive reinforcement, wouldn't they think it's right? For me, that language is not accpetable in my house, around my kids or spoken by my kids.
It's not the job of strangers to protect your kids from profanity. It's your job to put it in context for your kid.
I know at our local amusement park, they have a policy against articles of clothing with profanity on them. I only skimmed this article, but maybe it was the same type of thing. I do agree that the security guard went a little nuts about it though.

I agree with this. Of course i dont want my kids running around saying ''fck this or fck that''. But realistically, people curse...and I doubt my child will go thru day to day life without ever hearing someone say it.
This also reminds me that I have a suuuuuper hippy facebook friend who has a picture of her few month old son in a hat that says "F*CK RACISM." I didn't even clutch a single pearl when I saw it.

I've seen shirts that are much more offensive and are pictures/something a younger child can actually see vs them being know how to read.
If my 8 year old kid (just throwing out an age) came home and said, "FU*K CANCER mom!" I'd say, "no kidding! ...and don't say F*ck"
CANCER SUCKS.
FU&K CANCER!
hahaha! Definitely how I would react!
I'd rather my kid see and have to explain it
vs
I could go on for hours....
ETA: darn pics for not posting...
You can guess what they are
A Fu&k cancer shirt vs just about any shirt from spencers.

LOL I am glad I'm not the only one who was like having deja vu over here!
Haha, same. My kid will probably learn it from me anyway.
f'ck is a good word.
the pics in my post even have deja vu and don't even want to post... lol
LOL. Ditto. ..insert shameful face here!..
Give me a break.
I've seen far more offensive and inappropriate words or symbols on shirts.
Problem solved.
Or maybe, "I really dislike cancer in a way that makes me want to use naughty words"
Or "Cancer is a poopy-head!"
