Cloth Diapering

Very Dry Skin

Okay, I am needy today. We've been battling dry skin and eczema with DS since just about day 1. I use only unscented products with him, per pedi's instructions. At times, we have used a prescription steroid ointment for the really bad spots. It just keeps coming back. I finally found coconut oil last week and have been using it on him about 3 times per day for a couple of days. He's got two chronic dry spots on his thighs that start out red and puffy, then blister and peel. Today was the last straw: I found blood in his diaper where he had clawed his behind. I need help coming up with some kind of maintenance plan for this kid's skin. Right now I bathe him with Cetaphil every other night. I use Babyganics lotion or coconut oil right after the bath and a couple of times a day (when I remember). I've also tried Aquaphor and CJs Butter. Someone on a local FB diaper board swears by some kind of "Magic" something or other, but I wanted to get rec's from y'all. TIA!!!

Re: Very Dry Skin

  • Dr. Oz just had a segment on eczema on his show yesterday. He recommended olive oil and sugar. I would Google it and watch the clip. Other than that I have no experience with it. Good luck! I hope you find a solution soon!

  • Our doctor recommended Vanicream lotion and it's been amazing. Cleared her eczema right up, along with hydrocortisone twice a day for up to 2 weeks. If your LO is having it as bad as you say, I suggest seeing an allergist very soon and seeing if your LO is allergic to dairy or peanuts or eggs. Even if they are EBF they could be allergic and getting it through your milk. This happened to my friends baby...

I was going to rec this, except coconut oil and sugar. It's what I use on my own eczema, and I haven't started using it on A yet because it exfoliates quite a bit. Talk to your pedi though and see what they say. I'll also recommend using your regular moisturizer afterwards, too.

  • I use olivo oil soap for my LO,and I made a combination of olivo oil, with  almont oil,to put on him,you can also try to ground some oat meal, and put it on his bath with some olivo oil to keep him moisture, make sure he drink a lot of milk and water, and you should try to stop using the coconut oil,(I know coconut oil is great) but if you LO has a bad dry spot it will make it more dry because of the salicilic acid, instead you should wet a cotton ball with witch hazel and aply to the dry area to Help to heal the skin, you may also need to ask his doctor to do some allergy test,he may be allergy to something,if you have a cat make sure he is no allergy to the cat and last make sure is not to mush dust in your place,he made have allergy to it too.ooh before I forget breast milk is also great for enzyme,if you have access to it just apply as need it.

    good luck.

  • I'm not sure about eczema but I would try CJs. My husband has bad psoriasis and I told him to try CJs on it and the psoriasis is almost gone now! No more thick scaly white patches only a faint pink area where it used to be and that's almost gone now too. CJs seems to be a cure all in our house for any rash dry skin or scrapes. Good luck!
