anyone's toddler diagnosed with gingivostomatitis or herpes simplex 1 (cold sores)?

My almost three year old just contracted it and while I know it's a very common disease and most are contracted in childhood, I'm still really bummed.  If your child had it, did siblings get it as well? I also have a five month old, I would hate for him to get this early.

My sister got it as a young baby and my brother who was 11 months younger never got it.  my poor sister used to get them all over her lips.

DS1 got his first round of cold sores last Christmas. So far the rest of us have managed to avoid them - knocking massive amounts of wood.
