Since I like you girls better than my BMB. I thought I'd ask here.
1. How to did you find your pediatrician?
2. Have you heard of meet and greet appts to determine if you like the pediatrician and or practice? Did you have one? Did it cost money?
Thanks ladies!!
Re: NCDR: Finding a pediatrician
1. I asked for recommendations on my local baby board. I also asked the nurse who taught our birth class.
2. Yes, we had a meet and greet appointment. It didn't cost anything.
My pediatrician is actually J's childhood ped. We called to see if they would accept A, and they actually scheduled the meet and greet appointment first. They basically told us how the practice runs, and we also discussed A's immediate care after she was born (if she was a boy would we be circumcizing, are we planning on breastfeeding, how long we should expect to stay in the hospital, what tests and medicines they typically administer, etc). It didn't cost any money, and it was really nice getting a chance to meet all the staff.
If I hadn't known the practice through J, I would probably have just asked other moms in my area who they use and what they thought of their availability and care.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
It all revolves around you.
I got a recommendation list from my birthing center. So I assumed it would be pretty good. And sounded like the same thing a friend of mine did, who also used the same birthing center.
I asked for a meet and greet and they were confused and said they didn't offer one. But maybe could make something up. And it would cost 141 dollars since insurance wouldn't cover it! And that was for a 10 min appt.
Needless to say I wasn't very thrilled with all of this.
Maybe I'll try to get more information from my friend.
We called and scheduled a meet and greet. He went over their practices, services, clinic hours and answered our questions.
I also found out that our doctor has received several awards for care and service.
Also, our network allows for online scheduling, email, and all of the information given during the appointments is accessible there. It's really nice.
1. We started using a pedi SIL recommended. However, my DS1 had some allergy/health issues that started acting up around 3 weeks old. That pedi kept brushing us off saying that it was just colic and we were just paranoid FT parents. Eventually I pushed her to test his stool, and lo and behold the pH level was wrong. Needless to say we fired her & found a new pedi on a recommendation from two of my co-workers. We LOVE her. So the moral of my story is, trust your gut. If you think something's not right, it probably isn't even if a pedi says it's fine. You know your kid better, even if you are a FTM.
2. Ours has "meet and greet" nights once every 2-3 months that don't cost anything.
