C-sections

3 C-Sections & Tubal Ligation

On last Friday, I had my third c-section and had my tubes tide all at the same time. My doctor explained to me several times how tough my c-section was with the scar tissue (in which I didn't need him to tell me that judging from his very surprising interjections during the entire surgery). This, by far, has been the toughest recovery for me. I hadn't been able to get comfortable while trying to sleep, the cramps are horrible, and I can barely walk sometimes because my legs get swollen from not being able to lie down. My question is are there any other moms out there who have had the issue of not being able to lie on your side. When I lie on my side, it feels like everything from the front to the back below my belly button hurts like never before. I have tried to lay off the pain meds but this is the only time I can get a little relief. Someone please help me out. I just want to sleep and it's not even the baby keeping me up.

with both my c-sections I had pain trying to lie down on my side for a few weeks. I didn't have a tubal either.

I had a C-section on 5/8 and can say that there was definite pain when trying to lay down (either flat or on my side).  I actually still feel some discomfort now when trying to lay on my side but each day it does get better.  This was my second C-section and I also had my tubes tied.  I stopped taking the Percocet about 3 days out but still occasionally take the ibuprofen (mostly because of cracked nipples from breastfeeding).  I would definitely recommend taking the pain meds if you need them before bed so you can sleep better.  Good luck.  Everyday it does get better.

  • I didn't even attempt to lie on my side for at least a week or two. Hang in there, it hasn't been very long yet. I am sure it will heal with time.

With my 2nd c/s (no tubal) lying on my side was impossible to do for weeks. The pain was terrible

  • I had pain lying on my side or flat for a couple months.  I slept in a recliner the first few weeks because that was the only way I was comfortable.
  • I had my first c section on 5/9 and was only able to use a pillow to prop myself on my side somewhat until last night. Last night was the first time I was able to semi-comfortably lay on my side, but had to be very careful with my movements.

He's my fairytale, a dream when I'm not sleeping.

  • I agree with PP who suggested a pillow for pressure.  My third was my fastest recovery, but anytime I laid down, or went from a sitting to lay or laying to sitting or sitting to standing...I held a pillow tight to my lower abdomen.  The pressure really helped.  You can also use an ace bandage or a stretchy body brace thing. It would probably do the same thing.
