Cloth Diapering

Best Bottom

Hello! Just recently started CDing my 11-week-old son. Entire stash is BG Freetimes (love) & GroVia AIOs (leaked first time, have yet to try again, hoping they work out b/c I love their trim fit).

Now thinking of purchasing a couple of Best Bottom diapers to try out at the recommendation of someone on this board--would like to use them when out & about (less space in the diaper bag than AIOs) & possibly overnight.

Can anyone pitch me the benefits of the Hemp/Organic Cotton inserts over the Stay Dry inserts? Also, for overnight, would I definitely want an overnight insert? Or better to use a regular insert + a doubler?

 Thanks!

I think it's a matter of personal preference and your LO's needs. I is satay dry during the day bc LO doesn't like to be wet. But over night, I use the cotton hemp with a doubler bc the cotton hemp holds more liquid. She's in it for 12 hours overnight so we need the extra absorption.
I'm excited you are trying them! Let me know how you like them.

  • I love Best Bottoms! They make up the majority of our stash. I have mostly hemp inserts because they are more absorbent, but my son doesn't really mind feeling wet. I do use a fleece liner sometimes because I don't want him feeling wet all the time. I have also used a BB hemp insert in a pocket diaper, so I like that they are versatile. The stay dry are nice too. Maybe get a couple of each to try them out?
I don't usually use them overnight, so I can't help much there.

  • Love them!  I mostly used them around the house because I never really knew how many covers/inserts to pack and liked the convenience of the pockets or AIOs while out and about.

I lobe how trim they are!  I think it is because of the sized inserts.  We bought the stay dry when DD was little and then the hemp when she was older and we wanted more absorbency.  We also bought a few overnight doublers, but never really needed them.  DD wasn't a heavy wetter.

Thanks everyone! I'm excited to give them a try...I can feel the cloth addiction starting already, haha : My babe is prone to rash so perhaps we'll start with the Stay Dry for daytime at least. No idea if he'd be considered a heavy wetter but he has been sleeping for longer stretches at night so we'll just play around with different overnight options I guess! Thanks again!
