S/o food allergy and epi pen

Ds is getting really good about asking people if food is nut free but since he is almost 3 he is never anywhere without an epi.  What do parents of older boys do?  One day he'll be able to go to the movies or out in his own with friends.  By middle school he will know to avoid certain fods but would still need an epi pen just in case.... Where/ how would a teenage boy carry an epi pen?  No purse to throw it in.

Hopefully he will grow out of it at least to the point of not needing an epi pen on him at all times. My friend's DH always keeps one in the house, in his car, and at his office. That way one is always close by.

We were told not to leave epipens in the car since they are tempurature sensitive.

I have wondered this too.  I guess he could carry around a back pack or messenger bag (are those still cool?).

When are they going to make a smaller epipen?  Why does it have to be so huge?

  • Hi,
I am mostly a lurker due to mobilephonetypinglaziness, but thought I could help with this. If you contact/join FARE formerly FAAN can't remember what the new acronym stands for, they will send you or you can order a carrying case that you can loop a belt through similar to how some ppl carry cell phones or tools. It has been great for when my husband who doesn't carry a purse takes my son out.
  • They do have a smaller epi pen. It can easily fit into a pocket. It also tells you the step by step procedure vocally.

    It is called AUVIQ.

We asked our allergist to prescribe it for Reese.
