Two Sibset Questions

How much of a role does sibset play in your choice of names?  My DH and I really like Lila/Lyla (we haven't made a decision on spelling which is my other hang up), but there are other names (Eliza, Claire, Elise, Julia) on our short list that I like better as a sibset with our two sons' names (Noah and Zachary).  I keep getting hung up on the fact that both Noah and Lila/Lyla are four letter, two syllable names, ending in the same sound.  Am I being ridiculously picky?

With that being said, what are your thoughts about the sibset Noah, Zachary and Lila/Lyla?

Re: Two Sibset Questions

  • to me, sibsets are important. but i LOVE Noah, Zachary, and Lila!! Noah and Lila imo are nowhere near similar. i think its a great choice! i like Elise as well, but think Lila sounds better with your boy's names

  • For me, sibsets have very little to do with our name choices.

Noah and Lila together doesn't bother me at all.

  • I am not sold on sibsets.  I would only probably raise an eyebrow at a super obvious matching set like Rose, Lily and Dahlia or a total miss match like Daniel and Pilot Inspektor.

I think Lyla/ Lila sounds lovely.  FWIW, I love the Lyla spelling.

Yea, it's kind of growing on me the more I see it.

  • Unless they rhyme or in some other way present as a "joke" I could not possibly care less about sibsets. We choose names we love. We happen to love a "type" of name, so I feel our kids' names go together, but it was never a consideration in choosing.

Am I being ridiculously picky? I don't think so, I'm particular about stuff like that oo. I'd prefer each child's name to have it's own beginning and ending sound.

With that being said, what are your thoughts about the sibset Noah, Zachary and Lila/Lyla? It's okay, but I'd prefer Claire or Elise.

  • I think sibsets should at least go together in style and not rhyme or anything, but if I loved a name, I'd choose it. I think Noah and Lila/Lyla sound fine together!

Follow up ?:  Do you prefer Claire or Elise over Lyla only from a sibset persepective or from as individual names?

  • I care to some extent.  But I think that Lila/Lyla goes really well with your boys' names!  Very pretty!

  • I am admittedly neurotic about sibsets.  I want them to fit together, and I don't like it when they start with the same letter, or end with the same sound (Like Wesley and Zachary). I've thrown out a name we love, because it would sound very off with the name of my current son and the names we like for future daughters.

All that being said, I think Noah, Zachary, and Lila are fine together

  • Personally, I like the sibset to go together. Not match, but just have the same sort of feel. I think Lila fits very nicely with Noah & Zachary. I prefer the spelling Lila over Lyla.
