Conceiving after a D and C

I had a D and C for a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks on April 25th. We started having unprotected sex two weeks after. Now it's three weeks later and I took a pregnancy test. It was positive, but I'm thinking it's still HCG from the missed miscarriage. Has anyone had this happen or could I really be pregnant? I'm thinking I should just call my doctor.

Call the doctor. Did you temp to know if you ovulated? Dud your doctor clear you to ttc?

Don't do temp. Doc gave ok to start after two weeks.

The hcg could still be in your system from previous pregnancy. I'm lurking from ttcal but I tested with a pregnancy test every couple of days until I got a negative . I'm two weeks out also so it's possible. If so congrats but def call your doctor.

I would definitely call you OB. Personally and everyone I have talked to has been told to wait at least one cycle post D&C before TTC. Did you OB not say anything about this? Also did you do blood work to follow your HCG levels down to 0? I would ask your OB about all of this.

She said to wait until I had my first cycle, but then I asked what to do in the meantime. She said the reason they say to wait for the first cycle is so that everything is easier to date. She said it wouldn't be bad if I got pregnant before though.

Call your doctor and get betas. 

I had weekly positive hpts for 6 weeks after my d&c.  AF returned on the 7th week.

There are lots of OBs who give the green light immediately, mine included. He said there is no medical reason whatsoever to wait (many people need time emotionally) and if they do tell you to wait a cycle, it's only because it makes dating the pregnancy easier. My levels were back down to zero 2 or 3 days after my miscarriage in November. I suppose its possible though

That's great for you but for a lot of people it can take weeks.

My guess is it's still HCG in your system from the loss, but call your doctor and ask for bloodwork. If the number is going UP then it's a new pregnancy, in which case, congrats!

All of this.  I'm really surprised your OB cleared you for sex (protected or otherwise) so soon.  I wasn't cleared for any sex for three weeks or TTC until AF returned.

I think I still tested positive 8 weeks out from my D&C. I would definitely go in to get betas. If for no other reason than to make sure they're back to zero before you can rely on HPTs.

My doc didn't follow my betas to zero so I kept testing till it was negative. It took three weeks. I agree with pp to call and ask for a beta to figure out what's going on. I hope you get the results you want.

It took about 6 weeks for me to get a negative pregnancy test.

I'm going to assume its residual hCG from your miscarriage BUT I hope I'm wrong. Ask for betas from your doctor and see if they are rising, that's going to be the only way to know for sure if this is a new pregnancy.

FWIW, it took 4 weeks after my first D&C for my levels to hit zero and 7 weeks with my second D&C.

My Dr didn't follow my numbers to zero, but I got a very faint BFP 10 days and then BFN 12 days after D&C (which was at 12 wks, 3 days). We were told to abstain until AF reurned, which ocurred 26 days later. Everyone is different, obviously, but it could be previous HCG, or you could be pregnant.

You could be pregnant or it could be leftover HCG. I got pregnant 2 weeks after my m/c but it was natural without a D&C...I would call your Dr. Asap.
