Bell's Palsy Warning

Hi ladies! Just want to give everyone some information that may help them in the future in case you get these symptoms. If you have these symptoms call your OB right away and mention Bell's Palsy. Last night I went to the ER worried I could be having a stroke or there was another issue. Turns out I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy. It can cause paralysis to a side of your face and is more likely to occur while you're pregnant. Although, it usually occurs during the third trimester. Some warning signs and symptoms I noticed: twitching eye, lost of taste, a few days after lost of taste my left eye couldn't close and later on that day I was unable to move the left side of my face. If you catch it soon enough, they can put you on drugs that are safe to take and will help with the paralysis.

I wanted everyone to know about this because I had never heard of it. I hope no one gets it, but watch out for the warning signs!

  • This happened to my mom. First the eye twitching for a few days, then one day she woke up and the right side of her face was paralysed (she said she wasn't AS worried about a stroke because it was on the right and not the left, but she still had no idea what was going on)

Thank you for bringing attention to this. It's not all that uncommon and I'm sure it's caused many people to worry unnessecarily.

  • A client of mine has this. I had never heard of it and she's in her early 40's and never even knew she had it. It's scary but she made a full recovery and I pray it never makes a reappearance. I did not know it could happen during pregnancy, thank you for sharing this.
  • Thanks for letting us know.  Hope you are feeling much better soon!

So scary! Glad you caught it in time. My eye was actually twitching a lot when I first got my BFP, but that was the extent of it and it stopped after a few days. Good to know that it shouldn't necessarily be ignored.

  • My dad and uncle have both had Bell's Palsy. I haven't heard of women getting it and had no idea you could get it in pregnancy. My uncle still has some paralysis but my dad recovered fine. Sorry you have this! I'm so glad you got treatment when you did! So scary!!
