New at this...like REALLY new...

So new in fact that I've spent the last hour (at work of course) comparing entries in the thread to the glossary just to get a basic handle on the acronyms!

My wife and I (married 12/11/10) will begin the IUI process either tomorrow or Friday when the fertility monitor shows us that steady smiley face.  Then it's off to the races, with the end goal being of course a baby, no matter how we ultimately get there!

C (my wife) will be TTC first (whoa - first acronym used!) as she's older than I at 31 (I'm 27) and all initial blood tests have come back just fine, so we're going with no meds and no monitoring for our first few attempts.  At our RE (I'm getting the hang of this now!) they recommend 3 IUI cycles unaided if there are no known issues, which there aren't that we know of.

As we sit on the cusp of a process that could go so quickly and easily or so slowly and possibly frustratingly/painful/difficult, both of our heads are spinning with all the unknowns out there. With very few lesbian friends (only know 1 other couple who has gone through this process) I was thrilled to find this board today.  C's parents and one set of our closest friends know we're embarking on this journey and are all incredibly supportive and excited, but not being able to talk about our excitement/concerns on a regular basis makes me feel like I'm going to burst!  It's great to see we've got a forum here where everyone is going through the same things we are, and we don't have to act like doctors trying to explain it to anyone.

That's all I've got for now - just feel like we're on the verge of something monumental (no matter what it takes to get there) and feeling almost every emotion on the spectrum.  Our goal is to remain optimistic and realistic all at the same time, and to enjoy yet another of life's crazy journeys (with the ups and the downs that go with it) together as the best team in the world.

I guess we'll check in at the next TTC thread next week? This is "crazy freaking nuts" as my dear wife texted me this morning. Can't believe we're starting - FINALLY! :-)

Glad to have found this space - hope to learn alot!

  • welcome!

It is an exciting journey to embark on. I'm glad you're taking time to feel the feelings. I hope you have a quick and easy time of it, but if you don't, try to hold on to the excitement you're feeling now. :)

And I know what you mean about the acronyms. When I first joined the board, I told my partner (Manada--also on the board) that I would not use any acronyms other than IUI. That hasn't lasted. :) You do get used to them after a while.

    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

  • Welcome. I was so happy to find this board as well. i am new also only on iui 1. I am 2dpiui so we are embarking on the same journey at the same time. I have the same excitement and worry as you and ur wife.

The acronyms are a lot at first but I am only 2 weeks in and I have the hang of it. I think.

GL with everything. So what do you think you will do to pass the time? I didn't believe that time would move so slow until I am in it now! Soo slow!

Welcome!  PP (previous posters) are correct that you will find experiences all over the board!  This journey can be so frustrating but it is still beautiful so hold on to the excitement you have now.  If you have any questions, just post them and don't be afraid of posting.   We are a very supportive group and you will find we are low to no drama here so it's very welcoming.

I am not in ttc anymore as we just had our twins (who can believe they are 15 weeks???) but I am more than happy to offer encouragement, answer questions or just listen.  We had a complicated go at ttc that took us almost 3 years so I hope yours is much faster and far less complicated.

Fingers crossed for you and your partner as you enter the world of ttc!

  • Good luck!!  And try and be patient.  Sometimes babies don't want to be made until the 3rd or 4th try, so don't give up hope if it doesn't happen right away! :]

  • Good Luck!! Be patient, lots of waiting and ups and downs :)

tip: my fertility clinic recommended a tiny book called the "fertility diet"

    https://www.amazon.com/Fertility-Diet-Groundbreaking-Research-Ovulation/dp/0071627103

Basically eating unsaturated fats, avocados, nuts, seeds, whole milk and dairy products, tons of veggies and fruits no sugars chemicals or animal meats. It worked like gangbusters! two pregnancies in two tries. I am 31 also and both IUI's were unmedicated. The first ended in a chemical (which my doc said is very normal) the second we ended up with twins! We are now at 19 weeks and keeping fingers crossed for healthy pregnancy and delivery.

I hope the same to you and your wife :)
