Business Casual???

Ok ladies...so I got a part time job working as a receptionist at a law firm and the dress is business casual. However, when I went to the interview there was a female wearing skinny jeans and a cute flowy top and the office manager was actually wearing something I would wear on date night...a short aztec mini skirt and a sheer black button up with a camisole underneath! So my question would be...do you think a maxi dress would be appropriate? Or should I continue to be more business like until I'm there a little longer and watch to see what others wear?? TIA!

Re: Business Casual???

  • I would always err on the side of being too formal.  I would not wear a Maxi dress until you are sure it would fit in.  I would consider a maxi to be casual, not business casual.

I would keep your outfits to slacks/pencil skirts with a cardigan over a dressy tee or shell for the first week at least.   As PP mentioned, as the receptionist you are the first person visitors see, so you may have slightly different expectations.
