DD latched really well for the first week and a half, but last week something changed. Over the weekend I was in terrible pain, bleeding, etc. I knew the latch was bad and we worked on it for days. It is better, but still not right (we're going to a group tomorrow).
Anyway, she also developed CRAZY gas over the past few days. She's not crying out in pain, but passes gas a lot and I have to wonder if the bad latch is causing her to take in too much air.
Re: Could a bad latch cause gas?
It could if she's getting air instead of just milk while sucking.
I can't see your baby's age, but what's more likely is that she's hitting that 2-3 week age where they start to get a bit more fussy about digestion in general. Burp often. While nursing, try holds that keep her more upright like a cradle or cross-cradle rather than side lying or football. Google Baby Colic Massage and try that when she fusses. Try lots of skin-to-skin.
Hope you get her latch figured out soon!
