No flames I just feel the need to understand

 Background: Friend has 3 kids. I is 6 months old. She wants a 4th... not like a few years from now... but they are actively TTC.

They are financial strapped. She tells me all the time. They have no money. She has no plans on going back to work. Her DH's job is currently not secure.. He is a pilot.  They have cut his hours and are still cutting his hours. They have a mortgage that makes me queesey.

So why do I get looked at like I have 6 heads when I say "Are you sure you guys can handle that with this economy?"

after she has been saying for the past hour that they are hurting for money??

and she is not a jesus freak so it isn't like she would pull the "God only gives us what we can handle."

 

OMG I need a  drink.. I know non of my business.

I have a "friend" just like this!  Not mention the fact that the three kids she does have are the most misbehaved children I've ever been around.  And I've been around a lot of kids.  I did a family session for them, and it was a nightmare.  It take a lot for me to say that considering my philosophy during a shoot is "they don't have to behave, they just have to be happy."  The next time they need photos, I'll probably be busy.

Well, I personally feel like she has made it your business by talking to you about TTC and then turning around and complaning about their rocky financial status!  I would feel the same way if this were my friend.

I don't know, I kind of have the same attitude as your friend except I don't get to act on it because DH doesn't play that "God doesn't give you more than you can handle" crap.

Yikes...sounds like someone who uses the ability to reproduce to help her self-esteem.  I also have a friend who has 2 kids, lots of cc debt and her mom watches her 2 kids full time b/c she cannot afford childcare and whe wants another.  I don't get that either.

I guess in her mind, if she's going to be BF'ing and will have plenty of hand me downs for clothes, blankets, toys, gear, etc. then aside from diapers I guess she sees it as a no-cost thing. I don't know. I'm with though, I just can't wrap my brain around people who do those things.

I think the difference here is that this entire family seems to be living a rather lavish life despite their troubles. I don't know everything about you and J, but you both seem to be pretty down to earth and responsible and willing to sacrifice some of your wants/needs so that B can have a little more.

I think viva's right - there's a difference between making sacrifices or cutting back and living simply to have more kids and living beyond your means, bitching about it and being in denial.

Anyway, I am sorry you have to deal with that pin - I have family members who are sort of like that, and I can barely speak to them anymore.  I just don't get it.  Probably never will get it either.

You can love her, and still not understand why she does some things she does! Hell, sometimes I feel this way about DH - LOL!
