Is everyone transferring LO to convertible seat?

DS1 went into his convertible seat at 9 months, but it was really only because we were flying around the 8 month mark and we wanted to use the infant seat when we flew. DS2 is a bigger boy, and he looked so squished in his infant seat that we finally switched DS1 to the Graco Nautilus this weekend and moved the Britax Marathon rear facing for DS2. DS2 is 7 1/2 months.

And now I'm afraid to leave the house with both kids alone because it's going to be that much harder. Ugh. I'm sort of wishing I stuck it out with the infant seat longer.

Who else switched over?

Logan Jack- 6.1.10 and Emmett Weston- 9.29.12

Re: Is everyone transferring LO to convertible seat?

  • I switched Brant at about 6.5 months. He is just so stinking long and thick that he had badly outgrown his infant seat.

  • I switched at about 4.5  months.  He had reached the length limit.  He is a very long boy.  He is about 30 inches. He seems so much more comfortable.

  • We're going to the convertible seat this weekend when I can go get it from Target.  I've been wanting to switch for a while, just haven't gotten around to it.  Then we took a trip to get groceries this morning and I saw how squished DS looked in there!  His shoulders were really tight in there.  Plus, I can tell he's super uncomfortable.  He's about 20lbs and I'm not sure how they figure the weight on my infant seat goes up to 30lbs!  I can't imagine fitting him in there when he's that big!

  • we have Chicco keyfit 30 as shower gift...we are ok for a little while longer I guess by July we are going to be in the market for a new seat...

he's 17pounds and it goes to 30 pounds

Length is also 30 inches and he is at 22inches

oh yeah we've stopped taking car seat out of the car in March...we just take him out:)

  • I swear that the scale at the last check up was off because they said DD is only 16 lbs...she was 14 over 2 months ago and she feels soooo much heavier than that appointment.

I'm already at my strength limit with the infant carrier.  If I don't have to take it out I just take her out.  DH is starting to feel it too.  We moved the seats to the side because going to the middle was just impossible for my back.  I don't know when to switch to be honest.  30 lbs isn't happening with that carrier.

We made the transition to his Diono right around the 7month mark.  I just couldn't lift my son in the bucket seat anymore.  It has been a game changer.  I'm pretty confident that if we have another baby that I am bypassing the bucket all together and going straight to the convertible.  My son has always been heavy and it was an absolute work out to carry that thing.  Not to mention we live in the city, so I always have a walk to my car.  Maybe I would sing a different tune if I had a garage.

  • we started keeping the carrier in the seat and just carying DD2 a month or two ago, but now the logistics of that is getting more difficult (if I have the seat and DH needs to drive her) so we're looking to just switch her to DD1's convertible seat and buying a 5 point harness booster for DD1.

  • We transferred a couple months ago... I missed it at first and I do miss the baby napping continuity... But I'm also ok not carting around 21 lbs of love and a carseat.

DS1 outgrew the height limit of our chicco by 7months, but DS2 isn't even close. I think we'll get a few more months out of it at least!

  • We have the Chicco Keyfit that goes to 30 lbs or 30.  DS is still in it and has a couple inches to go.  Once he outgrows it, I will miss the ability to keep him in it while sleeping.

  • I love my infant carrier. I still haul it in and out of the car and up the flight of stairs to my apartment with no problem, but I am also an athlete, so that helps. DS is no where near the weight limit for the Chicco keyfit 30, but he is nearing the height limit. I think I have at least a month left on it.

We never had an infant carrier. DD would already be too long for it so I'm glad we didn't get one. DS is bigger so that definitely makes it easier to go out with both of them. I use the Ergo a lot but since DD started sitting up I put her in the cart to go grocery shopping.

This  - except LO is super tiny but HATES the carseat.. so we use the ergo a TON - sometimes the stroller (though she hates that almost as much)

  • Not yet.  DS still has a couple more inches to go, and he isn't complaining in the bucket seat.  I still take it out and lug it up a flight of stairs (he's 18lbs).  But I've started researching convertible seats and will be buying one soon.

We haven't switched over yet. We still have a few inches and he doesn't usually complain in his seat. TBH, I just dread doing more research, as we have yet to actually get the convertible seat. Once I discovered carrying the handle in the crook of my elbow (WHY did it take me so long to discover this!!?? How stupid!), transferring him in the infant carrier hasn't been as terrible.

  • We switched DS when he was approaching six months. He's a long and big baby and was close to outgrowing the infant carrier seat. Plus, it was SO heavy.

Strategies for grocery stores is that I park next to the shopping cart carousel so I can just plop him in the cart when we get there, and it makes it easy for pulling him out and putting LO back in to the car.
