Cloth Diapering

Prefold stuffing question

Thansl for your help ladies, one more question. In an effort to save money before buying charcoal bamboo inserts, for those who stuff with prefolds, are they more absorbant than one bamboo insert? Do you find they are bulky when stuffed in a pocket? I have osocozy prefolds that I would like to try stuff my diapers with if they are more absorbant. I appreciate your feedback!

Re: Prefold stuffing question

  • I don't get leaks using my prefold stuffed pockets. I have made the switch officially as of today. The only bamboo I use is overnight. I do, however, use a hemp doubler under the prefold trifolded. I probably don't need it but I like to be safe just in case I forget to change her at the two hour mark. Most of the time I can let her go up to four hours with the prefolds. I don't....but I could. They don't bunch up as much asall my inserts did so I get less leaks.
    Also it's no bulkier.

  • Yes, I do think that they are awkwardly bulky stuffed into a pocket so if I don't feel like folding it and snapping it, I just lay it in a cover, or I literally just lay it ontop of a pocket diaper.

IMO, they work just as well as any other basic inserts. I don't use bamboo inserts, so I can't compare, but I do use microfiber as well as hemp, and I've found that the makeshift prefold inserts are comparable in terms of absorbency. For me, they both work about the same.
