AmyG/ any Lactation Consultants...

(AmyG - are you a certified LC?)

This isn't a breastfeeding issue, but rather a career path question! Smile  What made you decide to become a LC?  Did you have a different career first?  What path did you choose from the acceptable paths to get certified?  Were you already in healthcare?  How difficult would you say it was?  Are you happy with your job?  I'm currently a teacher and I think I would love be a lactation consultant!  I'm not I have the time or money to pursue a new career path though.  My DH might have a heart attack if I told him I'm considering a career change right now and it involves going back to school and putting in volunteer hours!

  • I have the same question! I'm also a teacher, but I'm very interested in becoming an LC.

  • I looked at it - if you're not already someone with a health related degree, the coursework required is very extensive. Peer counselling or a non-ILCBC certification is more attainable, but also harder to do paid work with. I've sort of settled into minor activism after briefly considering LLL leadership.
