Cloth Diapering

Cloth Diaper Maintenance?

Do you do regular cloth diaper maintenance?  Like putting your pockets/AIOs/covers in the dryer every so often to re-seal the PUL?  Or using RLR or stripping everything once in awhile?  I started to notice a few of my pockets leaking just a tiny bit out the leg seams, so I threw them in the dryer last night.  But I'm wondering if there's anything I should be doing on a regular basis to help them last longer.

Re: Cloth Diaper Maintenance?

  • Not really on a regular basis, just when I think of it. Like I had thursday off work, so I had time to strip my dipes since I hadn't in a while, and washed out the diaper pail even though it didn't stink that bad. Just preventative stuff so I don't have to deal with issues later. I hang to dry now that it's not winter, but use the dryer on rainy or cool days so I figure that keeps them sealed enough.

  • I have never had to seal or re-seal my PUL. I only strip when I absolutely have to.

  • The only maintenance I do is an extra hot wash once every three to six months with no detergent. Sometimes there are bubbles, but usually not, so I don't do it very often. PUL doesn't need to be resealed, and I would never strip just for the fun of it.

  • I never sealed my PUL and it works great. I only did a strip when I needed to... Unless you know you're going to have buildup problems (like from bad water or not doing an extra rinse when washing) I wouldn't do stripping on a regular basis.

I don't do any maintenance. At all. I see no reason to make it more work than it is.

    This.

  • I do a diaper "spa treatment" on my fancy fitteds once every 2 months or so. We have very hard water here due to a lot of limestone in the are, which means I need to use more detergent to get things clean. So detergent and mineral build up can happen. But, thanks to my spa tratmentbwe never have issues and I've been told regularly when selling used dipes what awesome condition they are in. I enjoy cute dipes and endeavor to take care of them well.

  • I've never dried mu PUL or stripped diapers, I've been CDing DD for almost 3 years. I use a little bleach once in a while, rarely though.
