Cloth Diapering

Do you keep sposies in the house?

I want to do a cp but TB wants to steal all my joy.  Grumble.

SO!  Do you keep sposies in the house?

I do not.  I haven't had a sposie in the house since I used all the nb size ones up a friend gifted me after Em's circ the week after he was born.  I also don't keep sposie wipes in the house either.   My reason- if I don't have them on hand I won't use them, and if I never use them I won't miss them.

I have them bc we received a ton at a shower, and we bought some when she had yeast. I'm never tempted to use them though.

  • We were given a ton of newborn sposies so we exchanged them all for one of each size through size 6. We've never boughten them though and we only use one at night.
  • I do have some under the crib where I can't easily get them. Or anyone else for that matter. I haven't used one for well over a month. They prob don't even fit anymore. I won't be buying more. I'll buy more aplix for sitters but no more sposies.

  • The closest thing I have to a sposie is a GroVia Biosoaker which I only use if I go on vacation for more than 2 days.
  • I was given a diaper cake at both of my showers with various sizes of diapers, so I have those in her closet just in case.

  • Yes, but not all the time. I had to buy a bag for emergency and the leftovers have been sitting in the closet for a few months. It's good to know if I ever mess up on laundry timing we'll have back up, but I haven't had to use more than a couple of them from this particular bag. I also keep a few in the diaper bag just in case.

We have some size 2s left over from when DH was using sposies, but he'd be a 3 by now. I don't plan to buy more.

  • We don't... I actually just gave away the last of the newborn ones they sent home from the hospital with us.

I'm thinking I should get a pack pretty soon just to have on hand though... Hurricane season is upon us and if we lost power I'm not really sure how that would go...

  • We now have a large box of disposable diapers to use on vacation for DD3. We generally spend a couple weeks at our family's cottages during the summer, and there's no washer available. It hasn't been opened. I need to buy a small package of pull ups for DD2 for the same reason.

I chose to use disposable wipes, so we have lots of those on hand. I use them for anything from wiping faces to cleaning dirty hands to actually wiping butts.

  • Nope. I opened and partially used the 1 package we got at my shower and I was so frustrated with them I gave them to a friend who was pregnant and never bought another one. I can't say enough how much I hate them, and it will take a lot to ever get me to put her in one.

  • Nope. When we switched to CD's, I took the unopened boxes back to Walmart for store credit. We had opened packages from my niece, and those I gave to a friend who was going to work at an orphanage in Haiti.

  • Yes.  Especially until I get enough for both kids (almost there!) DD is only in CD part time, and DS is 95% of the time.  Even when I get enough, they will be in disposables at church. I might wait and see how the church nursery deals with my friends CDs before I try...

  • Yes. We always have some on hand. They are usually hidden away in a closet somewhere though so there is no temptation to use them. We have some family that babysit that don't like cloth so they will use they disposables. DD would frequently get horrible raw rashes on her bottom that only zinc cream slathered on would get rid of so we always have some disposables in the house just in case.

  • The last ones I had were when A was a newborn, because my newborn stash just wasn't substantial enough. I really just hated them. The biggest reason I use cloth is keeping chemicals away from DDs skin and genitals, and on top of that I hate the smell and we would get leaks from them, so even if I had some I wouldn't be tempted to use them. Maybe different brands would have world better for me, but I had no desire to shop around since I love cloth and really hate disposables. Instead, I use flats and covers as my backup/emergency/travel/general easy care where I may have otherwise used disposable stash and haven't looked back.

Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
    It all revolves around you.
  • I buy some when I need them for travel. I really don't have a moral objection to disposable diapers when they work better for me; I prefer my cloth and am never tempted to use disposables instead when we're not on the road.

I buy disposable wipes for daycare because that's her preference. There's most of a case from Costco sitting in the closet, going off to daycare one pack at a time. Again, we never use them at home.

I'm definitely a "we don't keep formula in the house because we breastfeed" person but it doesn't extend into diapers. Diapering is just so easy.

  • I bought some seventh generation sposies for a trip in the winter because we were flying standby. I've kept some in the diaper bag just in case we're out too long and I run out of diapers (cloth takes up so much space I only take what I think I'll need). We still have most of them left, and LO probably doesn't fit into them anymore anyways, so they'll be going to a friend. I do have some grovia biosoakers that I haven't tried yet, and those will be going into the diaper bag as back up next. LO had a bad reaction to pampers swaddlers the hospital gave us (thankfully I used cloth in the hospital, so she was almost a month old), so I avoid disposable wipes because they have the same fragrances, etc and I don't know what her reaction was to.

I've still got a couple of packs that I got at my shower.  That's how often I use disposables.

  • Yes, they make a good back up when I have to use a non-cd safe diaper cream.  But I'm never happy about using them, so there's definitely no temptation with having them around.  Every leak LO has ever had was in a sposie.  I hate them!

  • We do for backup and sometimes in the middle of the night dh just cant get the cd on right so he'll grab one out of frustration (usually when he's trying to be nice and let me sleep)

I also sent about half of the package to daycare for back up in case he ran out of diapers/covers for some reason -- and for when they are doing crafts (handprints/footprints) using paint.

  • I bought one pack of nb sposies when DD was losing weight in the first two weeks.  I was having trouble determining if her CDs were wet or not and the sposies have that helpful stripe on the front.  After her first blowout I went back to cloth and haven't looked back!  We went to visit my grandparents a week and a half ago and I did cloth on the airplanes and at their house.  Turned out to be NBD other than taking up a lot of space in our checked bag. ;)  I do have a handful of sposies that my MIL gave me that were left at her house from my niece.  I'm keeping two in the diaper bag for emergencies.  Particularly now that DD is in daycare.

  • Yes, we do hybrid diapering. Cloth during the day, a sposie overnight. DD's skin is really sensitive to wetness and will get very raw and irritated overnight in cloth, so we just use a disposable. It takes us months to go through a box, but we definitely have them around. I'm not tempted to use them during the day ? the cloth are so much nicer! And there's no problem as long as she is changed regularly. But a few hours in wet cloth can cause problems for her, so sposies help out overnight.
  • Yes, DD needs them for a class she goes to once a week.
  • No, we don't have any anymore. We brought back the rest of the NB pack from the hospital because she did wear sposies in the hospital when she was born, but never used any of them. I think we took them to church and left them in the nursery for people to use. About a year ago we had to buy a pack of size 3's (I think) because we had taken a day trip to my Gma's and forgotten the bag of diapers so just had the 1 in the diaper bag. So we had to go to Wal-mart and buy some. We used  a couple, then kept the rest of the pack in the car trunk but never used any. Definitely too small now.

We do have disposable wipes somewhere, but I can't remember the last time we used any. I used to keep a pack open, but then they would dry out before I could use them all.
