any Lo's in early intervention

At our nine month appointment, the led suggested we have the girls evaluated by early intervention.mostly for pt.

Does anyone have any experience with the process. My o

Older daughter had speech but she was so much older when she was evaluated and I am just worried that they will get it n and worried that they won't if that makes sense.

We are!   DD started at 4 weeks old.  Our evaluation was pretty basic, because there was no question she would qualify (she has Down syndrome, so the need for EI services is well established).

When DD was first evaluated, a teacher and PT came to our house.  For our most recent IFSP evaluation (6 months), we went to the preschool where all the services are coordinated and it was with the teacher, PT, ST, OT and hearing specialist.   In our state, EI is all done through the local school district, but I know that it's not done that way in some states, so I don't know how it will be where you are.

I completely understand what you mean about worrying either way - whether they qualify or not.  I'm sure it's really scary to not know what to expect.  Good for you for addressing it, though!  Good luck!

ETA: During the eval they basically just played with her watching for specific skills and asked us questions about her development.   Each therapist had their own checklist of things they were evaluating.

Wow, even babies go through the school system? I am a speech therapist with schools. In Indiana birth-3 goes through First Steps and 3+ goes through the schools.

    And OP, good luck!

I'm so happy that your DD gets EI. My friend has a DD w DS and her DD didn't qualify after the EI eval. She has to pay a lot out of pocket to get her ST/PT/OT. Stupid FL.

  • I'm worried that mine will have to be, because he can't lift his head up with him very easily when you pull him up (gently) by the wrists/arms.  He's underweight and I'm hoping that his weight has to do with it and not anything else really...I think they'll give us an idea of whether or not to start EI at his next weight check in a month.  I'm right there with you!
