Think we have a name...

First let me say I'm a little nervous about posting this bc some ladies have been a little brutal on my names in the past. I don't mind advice but please be aware that the name Rebecca has significance to us since a good friend of ours past away about six years ago.

Our original name was Josephine Rebecca last name starts with F but dh got worried that he wouldn't get use to calling her Josephine even though he liked the name. So we switched it to Rebecca Josephine but then I was worried people would call her becca Jo. Dh is really weird about nicknames and even I have to say becca Jo is not my fav. Plus we both felt Josephine Rebecca flowed better.

My question for you ladies is do you think using a middle name as the primary name is too weird? As in her name would be Josephine Rebecca but we would call her Rebecca or becca.

I know several people who go by their middle name (my aunt is Antoinette and she goes by her middle name, Diane.  WHY?!!?)

With that said, I love Josephine Rebecca...even if you call her Rebecca, she could still have the option of using Josephine when she gets older and I love Josie as a nn.

I never understood why people do that. If you want to call her Rebecca, then use Rebecca as the first name. I think Rebecca Josephine is fantastic! If someone tries to shorten her name to Becca Jo, just correct them. nbd

I actually think Rebecca Josephine flows better. And Rebecca is such a beautiful name.

Not weird, but a pain. dH does this and HATES it. He is very laid back and had only one stipulation about names- whatever their first name is is what we will call them. He always goes though so much trouble at work with confusion. I recommend her first name be what you will call her. Nice names by the way.

I never understood why anyone goes by their mn. If you want to call her Rebecca or Becca I think you should name her Rebecca Josephine. I don't see anyone shortening it to Becca Jo. Most people won't even know her mn and the one that's do will follow your lead and call her what you do.

My niece is a Rebecca and she will quickly correct someone if they call her anything else-and she's only 10. So people will call her what you guys call her.

I don't like using the middle name as the everyday name, just my opinion.

I don't think people will randomly start calling her Becca Jo or any other nickname that you don't use.  While she's little, if someone does call her something you don't like, a simple, "her name is Rebecca/Josephine" should suffice.

You can't control what she will eventually like to be called when she's older but give her the name you love.

I like Rebecca Josephine but the other way around is nice too.

I think Rebecca Josephine sounds great. I would just go that direction.

Not  weird at at all to derive the nickname from the middle name. I love Josephine Rebecca! I actually prefer "Josie"as a nickname as opposed to "Becca" but they are both nice. Congrats!

I don't think it's weird to go by the middle name. Most of my husbands family does this because they use family names and still see the family member they're named after.

My husband is Matthew Alexander. He goes by Alex. Because his dad goes by Matt. And if we have a boy he'll be named after my husband and be called Matthew.

His cousin is Wesley James. Goes by James because he was named after his dad who goes by Wes.

Another cousin is Richard Thomas. Goes by Thomas because their grandpa is Richard.

His brother is Eric Benjamin. He HATES the name Eric so has always gone by Ben. Since was old enough to say so lol.

Now that I list them, I've never seen so many people that go by their middle names lol.

I prefer the flow of Rebecca Josephine myself. I wouldn't think to shorten it to Becca Jo if I heard it, and I would nip that in the bud if I heard some one using it because it is far too country for me.

I think you are setting her up for challenges if you call her by her MN rather than using the name you love best in the FN spot.

I like the flow of both combos.  I don't think using the MN as a primary name is weird, though I'm obv in the minority.  Becca is very cute.  GL

I know a few people IRL that go by a middle name instead of their first.

I think either would be fine.

My BIL goes by his middle name. Doesn't bother me in the least. Him either. He was named for both grandfathers. One got the first name, one was honored with the name he is called.
