Carter's pjs question

We just got some new footie pjs for Charlie, and they're the cotton ones since it will still get cool here at night all summer. I tried putting them on her last night and they're ok lengthwise, but too skinny. Her chubby little legs and arms would not fit into the legs or arms. Anyone else had a problem like this?

Re: Carter's pjs question

  • we also have a harder time with the footie ones because his feet and legs are fat.  usually we get a bigger size and they are just really long on him.

  • Same problem here!  I hate how all of the girl clothes have "skinny" legs.  My girl's thunder thighs don't do well with those!

Anyway, I stick my hand in the sleeves and legs and stretch them out.  It has seemed to help and I've noticed they have loosened up over time.

That's a good idea, I'm going to have to try it. I hate that we just got new ones and she can't wear them. Glad I'm not alone, you'd think they'd do something that would work for all babies.

  • This bothers me so much! It seems like most of the pjs at Carters are "snug fit." Who wants to wear something super conformed to their body when they're sleeping? So not comfortable. I wish I had a solution but we're searching different places for better pjs, not Carters.

I am pretty sure it is a law that for 12 month size and over, pjs have to be either treated with a flame retardent or (and?) be tight-fitting to reduce burn risk. I guess lose fitting jammies burn more?

So it's really not Carter's fault (although I find a lot of their clothes to be more on the skinny side than other brands)

Yeah the snug fit has something to do w flammability. Hunter is already enourmous and has to wear a 24mon or 2T in PJs or he looks like the Hulk about to burst out his clothes. We also do the 2 piece jammies

you're right.  It's because all of those cotton footies are not treated with the flame retardant chemicals.  If they were treated with (bad) chemicals or were a polyester they could be more loose fitting.  When I worked in childrens clothing, people would always complain about it, but it's because cotton is very flammable if not treated and if it's snug fitting then it has less chance of coming in contact with a flame and starting on fire.

Thats why the only untreated cotton Jammies you'll find  12+mo will be what we always called "sausage jammies".  And if you have a girl, you'll notice that most nightgowns are a poly or poly blend because the burn rate is a lot slower.

Hehe Sausage jammies, love it! But how can they be sausages if you can't even get them on???
