Babies: 9 - 12 Months

vommitting every day with no other symptoms!

My LO has never been a big fan of drinking his bottles but he has loved baby food/solids since I introduced them when he was 5.5 months.  He is now 11 months.  Starting last Wednesday he started getting very upset every time I put him in his highchair to eat and it was like pulling teeth to get him to eat he was just fussing at every meal which is not like him.  That Thursday morning he threw up violently and almost passed out (he was suddenly pale, cold, lethargic>> talk about TERRIFYING especially for a FTM).  I called 911 and we ended up takig im to the emergency room at the local hospital here.  Well he threw up one more time in the hospital waiting room and then was fine, we gave him pedialyte and he was able to keep it down and was back to his normal happy active self.  Friday he was fine. Saturday morning he threw up at breakfast just one time and was fine the rest of the day.  Same thing on Sunday and again on MOnday so I took him to the ped, they said they couldn't find anything wrong.  He hadn't had a fever at all, ears looked fine, throat swab was fine. He hadn't even been fussy at all and has been sleeping fine.  Again we didn't get any answers.   Then Tuesday he threw up twice at breakfast.  Then projectile vomited again a short while later (I have no idea how he had anything left in his body to puke). I waited a while then gave him pedialyte. he threw that up too. At this point it was noon and he hadn't kept anything in his tummy all day. He started looking pale again so I called his gastroenterologist and she said we should go ahead and bring him to the emergency department at childrens hospital which is about an hour away. Well anyway they ended up admitting him Tuesday night, gave him IV fluids and he was also able to keep down some pedialyte. Wednesday they did an x-ray while he drank barium to see if there was anything going on physically and after reviewing the images the docs said everything looked normal. Bloodwork also was fine.  They let me feed him yesterday afternoon and he kept it down. This morning he kept down his breakfast as well so they discharged us. Well he threw up again this afternoon at snack time (we were home already). One spoonful and he immediately gagged and threw up.  I am so sick with worry I am about to have a nervous breakdown!! It doesn't seem like a virus since he's had no fever and no diarrhea or anything.  I just want to know whats wrong with my baby!!   He has already lost over a pound :(

Has anyone ever experienced this???

  • I have no advice for you...just lots and lots of prayers. I pray you find answers soon or that your poor sweet baby's symptoms disappear. :o(

  • Has anyone thought it could be an allergy? Is there any rhyme or reason to when or what he's vomiting? Vomit could be an allergic reaction. That's all I've got. Sounds awful, I hope something gets figured out soon. I'd continue pursuing docs and finding new ones til you get some answers. Especially if it continues.

  • I'm sorry to hear this. I'd be so worried too. I know that ds had strange symptoms like that about a month ago. He threw up Saturday night once at bedtime. (we thought he was protesting bedtime, which he has done and has made himself throw up). Then he was fine Sunday all day, but Sunday night he slept an hr after bedtime, woke up crying hard and vomit everywhere. That's when I knew something was wrong. Well he slept fine the rest of the night  and was fine all day Monday. Then Tuesday morning he threw up again. Then acted fine. I didn't know what was going on at that point but he did it again Wednesday morning so I took him to the doc. He told me he was fine and that there was a strange stomach bug going around that could last up to 5 days. Holy moly! Well thank goodness he had kept down all the pedialyte and crackers I gave him. He was fine after Wednesday. My lo's sickness doesn't sound as bad as yours. I would call the doc again just to make sure. Hope it passes soon.

  • The only advice I can give you is our own experience with this same thing.  My daughter went through about 1 1/2 where at every meal she'd SCREAM every time I put her even anywhere near her high chair.  She's fuss the entire time, and then throw up at each meal.  I don't know if there was a stomach bug going around or what but it eventually stopped.  We regressed back to purees for awhile and are slowly making our way back up.  I don't know if that had anything to do with it.  My LO usually loves eating, wasn't fussy otherwise.  I am thinking it was a stomach bug.

this!!  He gets very mad when I try to put him in the high chair, does the whole getting stiff and being dramatic thing so I cant sit him in it.  Then fusses and cries when he sees me getting the spoon.  He usually loves eating.  I'm thinking it is a a bad stomach virus and that's all the doctors can come up with too.  How long do these things last?!  What can I do?  Its been a week already and he is getting skinnier and skinnier.  I'm just so worried and frustrated.  he threw up his bottle this morning.  I calle the dr back and he called in a prescription for Zofran.  this helped him at least keep down juice and pedialyte the rest of the day but still will not eat anything.  he has literally barely eaten anything in a week

i was thinking this or norovirus, which can last up to 14 days.  I'd start giving him dairy free probiotics.  I hope you get answers soon.
