IUD question

I have a friend who is considering getting an IUD (skyla or mirena).  She was asking if I knew anyone who had one and what their experiences were.  I have never had one but I figure the ladies of July 2012 would have some info on them

She was wondering how painful it was to get inserted and if you had any side effects.  If you had one pre-pregnancy how bad were your symptoms?

Re: IUD question

  • I got mine 7 or 8 weeks pp, and I bled for what seemed like a month. Past that, I really don't have any complaints. Perhaps my sex drive has been down, or perhaps that's because I have no energy! Thanks Buzz Killington! Lol. Thinking about all the times I forget to take my vitamins, I'm so glad I got the iud!

  • I've had Mirena for a few months and it is great.

The insertion didn't hurt at all for me, just a little pinch. I was prepared for a lot worse.

I also haven't had any side effects to date. I would definitely recommend it!

  • I got the Mirena about 8w PP. I didn't feel anything really having it inserted. I don't know if that's because it was so soon after delivery? Since I haven't had any issues and really love not having to remember to take anything.

This. I haven't had a period on it either and I've had it since October.

  • I got the Mirena after DS1 and HATED it!

The insertion was a piece of cake but the hormones threw me off! I had it removed after a year because it was that or go on antianxiety and anidepressants!

If she has any sensitivity to hormones in BC she needs to get a different one!

My OB said its usually a love or hate relationship with IUD's and one won't know how they will react until they try it.
  • Thanks for the info!  I will send her  this tread so she can read over your responses.
