Baby Names

Which spelling?

We plan on naming our son Madden. For middle name we are trying to decide between the spelling of Thai or Tai. I almost feel like Tai may look a little more feminine if that makes sense. Opinions? TIA!

Re: Which spelling?

  • I would only spell it Thai if you mean it to be a reference to Thailand and/or the Thai people. Otherwise, probably Ty.
  • Something about Thai that isn't right...unless it is like pp said....regarding Thailand.

  • I've only ever seen "Tai" spelled either "Ty" or "Tye". I don't like Thai or Tai at ALL. Seems a little made up and feminine that way.

Thanks. MH is Thai, so maybe we'll just spell it that way. We like the name but don't like the general Ty/Tye spelling.

  • to me, Thai equals food and Tai equals Brittany Murphy's character in Clueless which I LOVE. and Ty is a boys name. I'd go with that.

  • Not Thai unless you're talking about the country.

  • Thai if referencing the country of Thailand. Tai if a connection with the Chinese language, where 'tai' is the pinyin spelling of several different Chinese characters. If no connection to Thailand or China, neither spelling.
  • Tai or Ty. NOT Thai.
