Cloth Diapering

first day in cloth yesterday

the BG nb diapers didn't leak at all! The gorgeous peacock grovia that I have leaked all over the place. I bought it used so maybe I didn't strip it right? It's gonna break my heart if I can't use it. Also, a question about Alva. are they all created equal? The purple one didn't leak at all, but the white one gaped in the legs and of course leaked no matter how tight I got it. Am I a failure? tips please!!

  • My baby is long and lean. I have issues with several diapers that leak due to leg gaps. Quite simply, if there's a gap, it will leak.  DS is also a heavy wetter so newborn BGs didnt work for him. He outgrew the absorbency by 2 weeks old.  I don't have Alvas so I can't comment on that, but don't give up. As your baby grows, different diapers might start fitting that didn't fit before.

  • YAy! Some people twist the tabs on the alvas to make them fit smaller.

Yay for the BGs working!  Boo about the grovia.  I hope you can troubleshoot it and still use it.

Regarding the alva, I don't have specific alva experience, but I have noticed that even among my batch of BG freetimes that I purchased from the same store, at the same time, same brand, style, everything, some of them have to be on a different snap setting than others.  Just little quirks in manufacturing I guess.  Hopefully that's all you are dealing with on the alva, and LO will grow into it soon.

  • thanks ladies! I'll try twisting the tabs on the alvas and I am going to strip the grovias again to see if that works.

    Congrats on day 1!

I tried my fully prepped GroVia AIO half a dozen times before I gave up on it; it leaked every time.

My Alvas all fit the same but I've heard of people having a few that are larger than the rest.

I'd say 95% of my alvas fit exactly the same but I have a white one that seems a little smaller and a couple of the minky prints that seem a little bigger.  I've noticed the same thing with other brands, I think there are just small inconsistencies in manufacturing.  It's never been enough to make a diaper not fit right however.
  • Yay for your first day!

A couple of my NB alvas seem a bit bigger than the rest. Hopefully twisting the tabs works for you!

I agree with PP, some of my diapers are exactly the same brand but fit differently. I had major problems with Alvas and leg gaps so I've sold most of mine. Its a fine line between a gap and too tight elastics though. Sad
