LO watching TV?

Does anyones LO watch TV? I will be sitting in front of the TV feeding her or I will have her in her rock in play and it looks like she is watching TV. She also likes to sit in my lap and look around. Sometimes it will be towards the TV. She seems content, but I don't want to get her addicted to the TV at such a young age ( 2 months, yikes!) We sometimes take her in her room where there is no TV if we think she is getting too distracted and not eating. I thought they could only see a few inches in front of them....maybe because we have large TV's (55 & 60 inches) she can see them?

Re: LO watching TV?

  • I thought I'd put him in front of the TV the other day while I was cooking dinner. He watched for about 20 minutes before crying. It's usually about 10 minutes before that happens. It was nice lol

  • Yes! Whenever I rocking him it seems like the tv will catch his attention for a bit. I don't know if he can make anything out, I think it's the colors sounds. He likes Mad Men like pp, it might be the boobs lol
  • My LO is obsessed with the TV. She will arch her back as you walk by, turn her head to keep seeing it. It's sort of a problem...

  • Yup my LO likes the tv too. But really she likes staring at any source of light. I think the tv is more interesting because of the constant change in color and brightness

  • My LO watches tv often when we're feeding him in the living room and the tv is on. He seems to be mesmerized by the lights, movements, and colours.

He has a ton of time where his focus is not on the tv though...during tummy time, when he's in his swing or bouncer, and when we're playing with him. He only seems to watch it when he's feeding if he's not watching DH or I. I'm not concerned that he's going to get addicted to the tv. I think it's good that he is focusing on things with his eyes.

Our little guy will watch tv for a few minutes, i did put the tv on the cartoon network the other day and i put him in his bouncy chair to watch Tom and Jerry while i walked the dogs! bought me about 10 minutes!
  • I'm surprised there are so many mamas that put their LO in front of the TV to actually watch it. We have ours on periodically throughout the day (we have a toddler that watches a couple shows a day) but I would never put my infant in front of the TV to actually watch it. There's no need for that.

I'm sure people could find an article that says that it's fine, but the AAP recommends to TV until 2. Now we didn't follow that, but certainly didn't sit out baby in front of the TV.  https://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1882560,00.html

  • No to TV for my little guy! We rarely have it on when he is awake, but if we do then he is faced away from it. We do have our computer linked to the tv, so the computer screen is on it a lot. He will sometimes look up at that, so then I turn him away. I agree with the previous poster that there is no need for babies to watch tv, they are entertained by much simpler things and are easily over-stimulated. I am a school psychologist and have a crazy theory that over exposure to TV and media devices is one of the reasons so many kids have attention deficits these days. To each their own though!
  • Nope. I have the TV on while I'm on leave but I definitely don't put DS in front of it and it's off when he is doing tummy time or in view of it, etc. Like DS1, as soon as we notice the baby paying attention to the TV, we just don't have it on any more.
  • I'm with PP and also kind of surprised with how many people are purposefully putting their LO in front of the TV this young. I don't go out of my way to avoid LO being in the room with the TV on, but she isn't in front of it watching it. She will occasionally glance at it if we happen to hold her in that direction during feeding, but I'm sure it's just the lights and colors since she like to look at lights. If I need to occupy her while I'm making dinner or getting ready or whatever, I'll stick her in her swing or crib and turn on the mobile since she LOVES watching her mobiles right now.
