Cloth Diapering

HELP!!!!!!!! Cloth diapering with super duper soft water

Where do i begin...i have very soft water. My diapers are repelling horribly. Ive never had issues with stink. I stripped my diapers about 4 times tried dawn twice, bleach once, rockin funk, tons and tons of hot water rinses. I even washed them at a friends house with different water and Im still having issues. I dont know what to do. I have an HE and i use rockin green classic. I am going to switch to rockin green soft but i need to get them working right again so i can use them and the new detergent. I looooove cloth diapering but im sooooo discouraged! HELP!

  • Try tide powder. If you really don't want to, try maybe Charlie's. Some people have a really bad experience with rng.

  • Another rec for tide.

Hopefully Token chimes in she has had issues with just about every cd safe detergent.

  • I think more experienced CDers will have more constructive ideas to add, but I wanted to throw in my experience with really soft water, too.  At my parents' house, I have to use 1/2 the detergent we usually use, and run 2 extra rinse cycles (on top of the usual rinse cycle) for the CDs to work for us.  Otherwise, my LO gets diaper rash like nobody's business.

This sounds like great advice. Soft water requires less detergent. It's also worth mentioning that Rockin Green is notorious for buildup issues. You don't necessarily need to switch to Tide, but I would try a different detergent.

  • As far as the fit issue he is still on the tightest setting on the waist and the rise. For 4 months they worked fine and then literally over night they started repelling. I am actually in the process of attempting to strip them with RLR in my moms top loader. I ordered some RNG soft rock but now im questioning if i shouldve done that if theyre notorious for build up. Ugh. Im so frustrated with this! If this doesnt work i really dont know what else to do.
  • ...and ive been using a fourth of what the detergent calls for. Before i knew i wasnt suppose to though i was using too much which apparently is whats led to this buildup issue. I am totally going to try the plain tide powder. Thanks so much!
