Lip Tied

I'm pretty sure LO is lip tied. He has a large piece of tissue connecting his upper lip to in between his two front teeth. Has anyone else had a LO with a lip tie? Not sure what to do. I see that it can cause trouble with speech and stuff like that, but other research says to just wait it out to see if it causes problems. I'm not sure I want to wait. Anyone have any advice for me?

Re: Lip Tied

  • I discovered the same thing.  I'm going to wait until his 1 year appointment and see what they Dr. says.  He's also tongue tied, but thankfully that hasn't caused any issues with eating so we haven't had anything done with that.

I am nervous though now that he has both that there might be speech issues....

  • I'm in the market for a new Pedi anyway so I will probably do the same and wait until his 1 year appt. See where it goes from there. If there is even the slightest chance for him to have a speech issue, we are getting it taken care of. For now it doesn't seem to be a big deal, but I don't want it to get that way either.

Good luck to you and your son klasala, I hope everything works out for you and you can get it clipped if there is going to be trouble down the road. :)

  • Sorry, I'm lurking. My son was tongue tied and it was causing feeding issues. My original pedi told me not to worry about it, that it would go away. I was still worried and went to another pedi who told me that pedis are not trained to look at it and he should have referred me. Dont take your pedis advice, because they dont specialize. Ask for a ENT referral.

  • I noticed this exact thing as well with Alex's front teeth. I called the dentist and we are going in to have them look at it but over the phone they said they would suggest clipping it. I'm all for saving him from braces in the future
