Baby Names

Case vs Casey

DH and I have been discussing these names for a little boy. I prefer Case but wouldn't mind if DH used Casey as a NN. DH says that Casey isn't a NN and we would need to use it as a full name and use Case as the NN instead.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around Casey for a boy at all, I always thought of it as a girls name...

What do you think? Which is a better name? Is Casey to girly to be a boys name?

Re: Case vs Casey

  • I know an equal amount of female and male Caseys.

To me, Casey seems like the full name while Case would be a nickname.

  • I would use Casey as the full name. It's definitely unisex, and I prefer it on a boy.

  • I agree with your husband. Use Casey. No it's not too girly. I think Case is ridiculous.

  • My best friends 3 yr. old is named Casey. We all call him case a lot as a nickname. I think it's definitely boy and really like it.
  • Use Casey. Case doesn't even seem like a name to me.
  • I really like Casey on a boy. Case just doesn't look like a name at all to me.

    VOTE on my Name List
  • My SIL is Casey so I have a really hard time seeing this name on a boy. Its too feminine IMO.
  • I don't see how Case is a name at all?  Nickname, sure, but full name?  Casey is nice though.

  • I like Case for a full name.  Bold and masculine in my opinion.
  • FN Casey NN Case. I prefer Casey for a boy over a girl.

I know just as many boys named Casey as girls. Case is not a name. I could maybe see it as a nickname.

  • Case as a full name is not good...it's not the best nn either but I prefer that over that being a boy's full name. Casey is nms but that has my vote.
  • I agree with your husband. I think Casey is unisex but I know more males with the name so my first thought is boy

Luggage. A case is a piece of luggage.  ;)

I'd go with Casey. I like it on a boy. :)

  • Casey is my favorite boy name :)  But I think it is the rare truly unisex name, if that bothers you.  I have never heard of Case as a FN.

Casey, hands down. Case is what you put your glasses or a musical instrument in. It's okay to call someone named Casey that for a nickname, but it's not a proper name by itself, in my opinion.
  • Casey is just as adorable on a boy as a girl. I personally know more male Caseys than female. I even know a few male Kaseys. Case is cute as a nickname, but as an actual name it reminds me of a court case, or "head case" or as many PPs said, a container.

I've only ever known Casey to be a girl's name, but I know it goes both ways, just haven't ever met a boy Casey.

And Case? I will never understand that name. Please don't.

  • I agree with pps...go with Casey, Case isn't a name.

this.  I'm just hoping your not pronouncing Case like Casey  and using that spelling to be 'different'

I've met younger girls named Casey but have mostly known it as a boy's name.  I knew several boy Caseys growing up.  That's one of those things that dates me to the '70s, I guess.  This is as close to being a truly unisex name these days as far as I can tell.  The SSA site says it's currently more popular for boys, but I wouldn't side-eye on either sex.  Case as a full name, though, I would side-eye the hell out of.

Yay!  I was hoping someone would bring this up!  It's the first thing I think of when I hear the name Casey.

  • I much prefer Casey, don't like Case at all. For a nn, fine, but definitely not a first. And I don't think of Casey as a girl's name either.

Yeah, that's just one of those nouns/nns you can't make into a legit name without people side eyeing you constantly.
