Cloth Diapering

still need help

I posted recently about my 3mth old starting to roll from side to side. This is causing her sunbaby cloth diapers to leak. i should say soak, rather. The suggestions i recieved were 1fitting problem 2absorvancy. night one we put 2 micro inserts in and there was no leaking!! Night two with same process.. woke up soaked again. Babysitter is also starting to complain about the leaks. please help me or send encouragment. i dont want to fail at the cloth diaper thing!!
Baby is 12lbs. wearing sunbaby with 2 micro inserts at night. snapped on smallest setting for waist and legs.

  • Are the inserts soaked? If they are soaked, try adding a hemp insert and a microfiber, because it may be compression related.

If they aren't soaked I would get a fitted to give more absorbent all over coverage.

Is your babysitter changing her from her night time diaper or are you getting leaks during the day too?

  • Whats an example of a fitted? I change her prior to taking her to dc. the leaks are occuring there too. she always has to change her clothes.

  • Are the inserts soaked? Either you need more absorbency, or better absorbency (natural fibers - less compression) or the diapers just don't fit your baby well. Do you have anyother brands besides the Sunbaby?

How often are they/you changing her daytime diapers?

  • I only stocked our pile with Sunbaby. I also only purchased microfiber inserts. I always send 7Diaps to dc and baby goes through 4this is including the one i send her in. im hoping not to spend more money than i need to, to correct tho issue.

  • Ok, I seriously would n?ed to knowif the inserts are soaked becaus that's got g to pretty much decide the advice I would give you.

Have you ever used them without leaking besides the one time overnight? Where are the leaks occurring?

  • We switched to fitteds and wool because of leaks with PUL dipes. IMO the physics of PUL dipes just isn't ideal for laying kiddos they pee faster than the absorbent layer can soak it up, which means that it puddles, even if briefly, and that allows leaks. Fitteds and wool don't have this issue.

  • I have never used Sunbaby, but I will say I had difficulty with getting a good fit on DS when he was about your LO's age. He was constantly leaking out the legs of some of his diapers until he got a bit bigger. If you're on the smallest setting and it's a fit issue, I don't know if there's much of anything you can do but wait it out. It's frustrating, but a little extra laundry didn't kill us. However if the inserts are soaked, it's probably more of an absorbancy issue. You can double up the MF during the day, or you can add natural fibers like ITK suggested. I haven't personally tried it, but I've heard that NB prefolds are good for stuffing pockets, and you could probably find some pretty cheap.
