Today is my sister's first day training and I sat her down to talk first thing when she got here. She obviously filled out paperwork, we discussed her schedule, and her duties. Her schedule is pretty flexible and if she needs to come in late/early for something that is fine because we have 2 other employees (small local business) who are part-time customer service associates.
She has pretty much told me she would love to take on the extra responsibilities and that she doesn't mind having to come up here during emergencies as long as she is available to. She did mention that our dad would either have to be on call if she can't be here or that our parents would have to watch her 2 kids while she runs up here. (We both live minutes from the business. She is living with our parents for the time being.) My mom is on board to watch those kids whenever, like any other grandparent who has barely seen her grandkids would be.
Here is my new concern... We hired a temporary person until my sister could begin and is aware that her position wasn't permanent. Now I'm thinking we should probably keep her longer than she thought or even hire her permanently since I will be out... That way we have another employee who can cover a shift is someone is sick or needs to be off for personal reasons. Especially while I'm out for about 3 months.
Should we discuss keeping her longer? Permanent position? Or am I just crazy?
Re: Talked with sister.
I'm glad you talked to your sister and everything seems to be working out!
I don't think it would be a bad thing to keep the extra person while you're out and I'm sure that employee would like it too.
I've been thinking it over and I spoke with DH. We've decided it's probably best. If she agrees! She knew she had a temporary position and made it clear she didn't want to work more than a year... I assume unless she has personal reasons that keep her from working that she would love the extra pay checks. Hopefully!
