So I have EPed sonce Fowler's early arrival in Dec. Despite working SO hard to keep my supply up things are starting to dry up!
The doc and I decided to use my fresh and frozen supply and add some formula to each bottle to help stretch the length of time he gets bm and help his tummy adjust to the formula. She suggested we start with enfamil gentlease as it is partialy digested. At first he did fine. A few days in I noticed He was a little less setteled. Now he will only take about half his normal amount if the formula is in there. He will fuss and arch his back and he has gas.
I know this is our first formula and it can be hit or miss but I just wondered if any of you had switched successfully? It may be more difficult for him to switch because he has been on bm for 4 months but I just hate feeding issues! Makes me feel guilty...even though I know its not my fault because he has had such a rough start and I feel like I'm causing him yet another problem!
Re: BM to Formula...help!
I've noticed that our LO has been more difficult to burp over the last week. I'm not sure if that's related to the change in formula and or reduction of breast milk he's getting. His bowel movements have changed greatly...from frequent liquidy, seedy and mustard coloured BMs to infrequent pasty, green coloured BMs with a really foul smell. I know this is a result of the formula change and reduction in breast milk.
When LO's BMs started to change over the weekend, he was quite gassy and fussy. I could hear his guts gurgling but nothing was coming out. Things have gotten better over the last couple of days but he's still not able to get all of his burps out.
BFP #1 09/02/11 M/C 09/12/11 8w6days
BFP #2 07/18/12 Baby S born on his EDD 03/23/13
SS - age 12...SD - age 8...DS - 13 mos.
The thinness and easy to digest were supposed to be the reasons the doc reccommended gentle ease.
I too have noticed he does not brup as well this last week...wonder how that correlates to th formula?
I think we are going to try a 'regular' formula and see what type of reaction we get.
