Milk Allergy?? What are symptoms?

Is it just spitting up?? Or is there rash, fussiness, etc...?

Re: Milk Allergy?? What are symptoms?

  • DS has a milk/soy protein intolerance (not sure if that's really an allergy or not), but the only way we knew was he had blood in his stool.

  • Easiest symptom to identify is either blood or mucus in stool.  But I've heard in less severe cases it can appear as colic, eczema, excessive spit up.
  • My FB had a milk allergy. She would get a diaper rash within the hour, as well as on other parts of her body, spit up, and diarrhea. It was horrible. Obviously with all of those came fussiness. But it's definitely not just spitting up.

This. It also can cause acid reflux like symptoms.
  • To add to all the PP's...my pedi said to look for an ANGRY "beefy" rash as she called it ... around the anus.  She said you'd know it when you saw it.

Both of my LOs have (had) a milk protein allergy. Like a PP mentioned, it often originally presents like reflux. DD was spitting up a lot, screaming, fighting her bottle, refusing to latch while BFing, and had a rash all over her body for months. It would especially get red and angry right after eating.

With DS, I saw a lot of the same symptoms, but he got a horrific, bleeding diaper rash from frequent loose stools. He would instatntly get a rash around his mouth, had issues latching or staying latched, screamed after and during feedings, and started getting eczema. Fortunately, this time around I was knowledgeable about the symptoms. FWIW- I never saw visible blood in either of my kids diapers. DS had stringy, mucousy poop. It was often a yellowish color and very seedy (think bird seed) while BFing.
