High fluid levels

Has anynody else had high fluid levels? I went in yesterday and they noticed my fluid level is high. Averge is 10 to 15cm and im at 22cm. So they sent me to labor and delivery to do a stress test on the baby and ruptured membrane test. The nurse scared the crap out me cause she said my water can break easier and if it does then I have to hurry cause with all the extra fluid it could flush the umbilical chord out and he will be laying on it his head is down which would cut off everything to him. They also have induced around 36 to 37 weeks for people with high fluid so they don't risk your water breaking, which would also most likely end in a c section. I'm 33 weeks now and now I'm nervous!

Re: High fluid levels

  • The nurse was a moron. Up to 25 is normal. There is a small risk of complications once you are up in the 30's. I was at 29 and am down to 20. If you don't have GD, they might order an US to try to figure out why you are on the higher side of normal.

  • Huh.  I was in L&D on Sunday for strong cramping and mysterious-leaking-fluid and my fluid was 18, to which the doctor said "Awesome!"

  • I just had a fluid check/growth scan yesterday and my AFI (amniotic fluid index) was 19.1 which the tech said was great.
  • Yes - that nurse was wrong. The cut off to "normal" is 25.
  • Why in the world would they do an early induction due to the increased risk of your water breaking? This does not compute as both would lead to L&D, no?
